ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
David Powers
Advanced Farm Technologies

David is an alumnus of FRC228, GUS Robotics from Meriden, CT. He went to Worcester Polytechnic Institute where he studied Management and Mechanical Engineering. Shortly after finishing up there, he started working for a sheet metal manufacturing shop, ETM Manufacturing, in Littleton, MA. While there he started mentoring FRC6328, Mechanical Advantage, as their lead technical mentor.
Wanting to further his career in robotics, he took a leap and moved to California to join a startup that was setting out to change the agriculture industry. Advanced Farm Technologies, based in Davis, CA, designs, builds and deploys robotic apple and strawberry harvesters. David joined when the company was just 10 employees and has helped build the organization to nearly 80, now managing the engineering team that is tasked with the development of their new apple harvester and the continued development of their strawberry harvester. In Davis, he mentors FRC1678, Citrus Circuits, as a hardware mentor and supports their developing educational curriculum.
"Growing up with FIRST was an incredible experience, I was lucky to have so many positive role models in my life that really encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I continue to mentor and volunteer to provide the next generation of students with the support and education I was lucky enough to get!"
Thank you for making NE proud, David!
