May update from Holy Cross
Greetings!

Hello from Sunny San Pedro, Belize. We've been enjoying unusually dry and sunny weather, so it's been perfect for student learning, fixing roofs and installing solar panels.

Our Standard 6 students have just sat their P.S.E's (Primary School Exams). This is a nationwide standardized test and probably the most important test they will take in Primary School. Now, all classes are working hard on their last few topics, then it's time for review and exams in mid June and graduation in late June. No time to rest!

I've gathered together a small collection of stories from our classrooms and volunteer activities. I hope you enjoy reading and seeing the seeds of your support continue to grow in the lives of our students.
From the classrooms
School assessment - we're improving
The Ministry of Education conducts regular school inspections and reported that our school is improving! They especially highlighted Std 2 Teacher, Clotilda Sosa, as having a classroom that was a model to others as being a peaceful space ideal for learning. Well done!
Preschool activities
Every March, the preschools on the island pause their regular program to do something different. They focus on crafts, visiting the community, doing performances, listening to stories and having FUN!

Read here to find out what our preschool students did this year.
From the volunteers
Soccer coaching
Coach Katherine from More Than Futbol spent 4 months running after school soccer classes. She also worked in the classrooms, helping students identify their goals and how to take steps to achieve them.

St Michaels's Episcopal mission trip
Each year around Easter, a team from St Michael's Episcopal returns to lead an Easter Vacation Bible School and do much needed repairs on the school. This year they replaced leaky roofs and made preparations to install additional solar panels. Thank you so much for your help.

Solar phase 3
The third batch of solar panels from our Global Giving project has been installed! 24 new solar panels are in place, and we can now generate just over 12KW, or 46% of our peak daytime load. This is exciting!

Gathering school supplies and shipping them to Belize makes a great youth leadership or Eagles Scout project.

Read here about how Aiden Ferguson of Oakville Canada recently gathered and shipped several boxes of supplies.
Operation Christmas Child visits Holy Cross
Most of us have at some time filled a shoe box full of gifts for a boy or girls somewhere far away. But few of us ever get to see one opened.

Holy Cross was fortunate to be on the receiving end of these gift boxes, as Samaritan's Purse is starting to extend its activity in Belize.

Click here to see the look of pure joy on children's faces as the boxes are opened.
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter and keeping up to date with what we're doing. And thank you for your ongoing support and interest.

As always, if you know of anyone coming to Belize, please mention our name. We love visitors and would gladly give them a tour and introduce them to our amazing little school.
