FIRST CARES Regional Recovery & Employment Survey

The FIRST CARES survey is a regional survey we’re using to learn more about recovery and employment in our communities. We really want to hear from people with lived experience, family members, employers, providers, and other community members about what’s helping, what barriers people are facing, and what supports are still needed.

The goal is to get a clearer picture of what recovery looks like across our five-county area and how employment fits into that. We want to use the information to help guide future planning, strengthen supports, and build more recovery-friendly communities and workplaces.

It’s really about making sure the voices of people in our region help shape what comes next.

Use the QR code in the picture below or click here to access the survey.

Downtown Huntingdon is gearing up for one of the community’s favorite spring traditions—Mayfest—returning on April 25th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This full-day celebration will once again transform the heart of town into a vibrant festival filled with shopping, food, and family-friendly fun.

Visitors can explore a wide variety of artisan and retail vendors, enjoy delicious offerings from local eateries and food trucks, and take part in activities for kids of all ages. Live entertainment will be happening throughout the day across multiple locations, including Bryan Park, the 700 Block, and Weaver’s Lot, featuring everything from live music to dance performances.

This year’s event will also feature the America250PA Mobile Unit, offering a unique and interactive way to connect with Pennsylvania’s role in America’s 250th anniversary. The mobile exhibit will be located at the Huntingdon Presbyterian Church parking lot and will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Whether you’re coming for the entertainment, the food, or the chance to support local businesses, Mayfest offers something for everyone. Mark your calendar and join us in Downtown Huntingdon for a day of community celebration and springtime fun!

Pennsylvania Unemployment Drops, National Rate Rises

Ed Gruver, Central Penn Business Journal

April 19, 2026

As the national unemployment rate rises, Pennsylvania‘s rate fell in February. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry (L&I) released its preliminary employment situation report Friday for February. The report showed that Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate was down one-tenth of a percentage point over the month to 4.2 percent in February. The U.S. unemployment rate increased one-tenth of a point from January to 4.4 percent over that same period. Pennsylvania’s rate continues to perform better than the national rate. The commonwealth’s unemployment rate was a tenth of a point above its February 2025 level of 4.1 percent, while the U.S. unemployment rate rose two-tenths from last February. L&I reported that the civilian labor force in Pennsylvania, which is the estimated number of residents working or looking for work, increased by 5,000 over the month to 6,588,000 in February. Employment increased by 7,000 and unemployment declined by 2,000 from January.

Did you know........

Small businesses represent the largest segment by number of most local chamber membership rolls. Results in the research study by The Shapiro Group, Inc. and Market Street indicate the impact of local chamber membership on small businesses is very powerful. If a consumer knows a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 44 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 51 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 57 percent increase in its local reputation and a 63 percent increase in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future.

Research indicates that chamber membership stimulates business-to-business commerce in the local community. Other businesses in town are more likely to do business with you and your company if you are a member of the local chamber. Because a major part of a small business typically comes from business-to-business services, it is essential to maintain a positive standing within the local business community.
