At the June monthly meeting, the Township Committee introduced an ordinance #21-21 to “opt out” of local retail sale and distribution of cannabis (per the referendum passed by the voters of our state last year). Each municipality in our state has the opportunity to opt-in or opt-out for being considered for the first set of cannabis licenses to be distributed by the state. Morris Township decided to take a “wait and see” approach to watch how this plays out in the handful of municipalities that are opting in to allow cannabis operations in their town. Most municipalities in our state took the opt-out route. The Legislative Standing Committee of the Township Committee, led by Deputy Mayor Mark Gyorfy, held an information session prior to our initial vote to provide background to the public and to explain our position. You can watch the video of that info session HERE.
In 2019 The Township Committee established a new Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) with a purpose to explore, study, and make advisory recommendations to the Township Committee on ways to improve travel, circulation and transportation modes to include walking, biking, driving, and parking in Morris Township. In November 2020 conducted a “Personal Mobility Survey” and over 700 residents responded to this survey. The Transportation Advisory Committee, led by Deputy Mayor Mark Gyorfy, recently presented the findings from the survey and their subsequent recommendations at a public meeting. You can view a recording of the meeting along with their presentation slides HERE.
The Morris Township Environmental Commission (EC) publishes a periodic newsletter. Read the latest update from the Environmental Commission HERE. (Spoiler alert -- their tip of the Month: Buy an “Insulating "Blanket" for your Water Heater.)
