Mayor Johnson's "Budget Working Group" Executive Order

This week, Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order creating a new “working group” to study Chicago’s structural budget problems. The group will include labor leaders, business representatives, and elected officials, and is tasked with delivering recommendations on how to make the City’s finances more sustainable — with a final report not expected until May 2026. Meanwhile, the Mayor is traveling to Springfield next week to ask for more state funding, without a concrete plan in place.

Shredding Event Tomorrow at

Ohio Place Dog Park

Alderman Reilly is hosting a Community Shred Day on Saturday, April 26th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The event will be held at the Ohio Place Dog Park located at 360 West Ohio Street. You can access the Park from the intersection of West Ohio Street and North Kingsbury Street. Please see the flyer below for more information.


Households can bring up to two boxes of documents to be shredded, and shredding materials will be accepted until the shred truck is full. Please remember to remove all paper clips, staples, and other bindings.

State Street Bridge Project

On Monday, April 28, the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin emergency structural repairs to the State Street Bridge. Throughout the project, the bridge will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. State Street will remain open on both sides of the bridge, and vehicles crossing the river will be rerouted to Clark Street and Dearborn Street.


The project is expected to be completed at the beginning of December 2025. Please see the flyer below for more information.

Polish Constitution Day Parade Saturday,

May 3rd

Next Saturday, May 3, Grant Park will host the 134th annual Polish Constitution Day Parade. The parade will run from 11:30am to 1:45pm on South Columbus Drive, from East Balbo Drive to East Jackson Drive. Assembly of the floats will begin at 8:00am and disassembly will be completed around 1:45pm at Columbus and East Monroe Street, upon the completion of the parade. 


Please anticipate road closures at the following locations from 8:00am - 2:00pm:


  • East Balbo Drive, from North Michigan Avenue to Lake Shore Drive
  • South Columbus Drive, from East Roosevelt Road East Jackson Drive


The parade is anticipating over 6,000 participants and over 100 floats and vehicles.

Saint Jude Memorial Police March Sunday,

May 4th

The Saint Jude Memorial March will take place downtown on Sunday, May 4, from 8am to 10am. The march is hosted by the Saint Jude Police League, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the men and women of the Chicago Police Department and their families. The League provides support to families who have experienced the loss of a loved one serving on the force.


Police officers will begin assembling for the march around 6am. The officers taking part in the march will begin at North Michigan Avenue and East Superior Street and will travel north to East Chicago Avenue. The march will then turn west and travel on Chicago Avenue to North Clark Street, where the parade will end between 10-11am. Expect officers to be staged down to Michigan and East Wacker Drive prior to the beginning of the march. Streets and Sanitation trucks will be in place to block the march route on either side of North Michigan Avenue.


During the march, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic:


  • North Michigan Avenue, from East Wacker Drive to East Chicago Avenue
  • Chicago Avenue, from North Michigan Avenue to North Clark Street


The march will not include any floats or vehicles, but residents can expect to hear music from the bagpipes. Please click here to learn more about the mission of the Saint Jude Police League.

Street Sweeping Started April 1st

Street sweeping began Tuesday, April 1st, and will continue through the Fall season. 

To find the street sweeping schedule for your streets click here and follow the instructions below: 


  • Click on the map of your ward
  • Find the section for the address you are seeking
  • After you find the section, click on the street sweeping schedule for your ward.
  • Locate the section on the schedule, which will provide the borders and the street sweeping dates. 


Note one side of the street (East/West or North/South) will be swept on the first date, and the other side of the street (East/West or North/South) will be swept on the second date. 

  

Residents can view street sweepers in real time using the Sweeper Tracker online tool.

Request for Feedback- Chicago Moves Electric Framework

CDOT has officially released the Chicago Moves Electric Framework Plan. This is the City’s first comprehensive strategy to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, support e-mobility services, and reduce transportation-related emissions. This plan represents a major step toward a cleaner, more equitable transportation future for all Chicagoans.


The Framework is a living document, and CDOT is inviting the community to respond with comments and feedback by May 18, 2025. Community input will help ensure that the plan effectively serves our communities and advances our shared goals.

42nd Ward Traffic Closures & Construction Projects

Filming:

Ohio St Beach

On Monday, April 28th, filming for "Durango 60625" will take place at Ohio St Beach. From 1:00 PM to 11:59 PM, the following streets with be a designated as a NO PARKING / TOW ZONE:

  • Both Sides of Ohio from McClurg Court to Lake Shore Drive
  • North Side of Ontario from McClurg Court to Lake Shore Drive.

Lift:

On Friday April 25th to Sunday April 27th a 500 Ton will be hoisting a chiller to the roof at 330 W. Grand Ave.that will require a full street closure. This will take place from 9:00 AM Friday to 8:00 PM Sunday. Bus Stop #65 Grand will be affected.

Helicopter:

On Saturday, April 26th, from 9am to 11am, there will be a helicopter lift at 118 N Clark. During the lift, the follow will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic:

  • Clark
  • Washington
  • Randolph



Casino Caisson Pours: March 18 - May 18

  • Total duration of caissons and piles is approximately 8 weeks (approximately mid-May)
  • Start date of caissons: Permits are expected to be issued by March 14 
  • Casino and Hotel caissons – A total of 356
  • Casino Piles – A total of 202


Work hours will continue to be 8am-8pm. However, if an issue arises during a pour, there is the potential that crews will work past 8pm. Once a caisson pour begins, it can't stop until it is finished. 



676 North Michigan Avenue Façade Project


Redmond Construction was hired to complete a façade project at 676 North Michigan Avenue. Currently, the following closures are in-place:


  • Sidewalk on the south side of Huron, from Michigan Avenue to a point 150' west thereof
  • Curb lane on the south side of Huron, from Michigan Avenue to a point 150' west there of is being used as a pedestrian walkway
  • Partial sidewalk closure the west side of Michigan, from Huron to a point 100' south thereof


This project is expected to be completed by fall 2025.


River North Lighting Project


The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) has completed new light pole installation in the area bounded by Chicago, Ontario, Orleans, and the River. CDOT has begun removal of the old light poles and continues to restore infrastructure trenching.


Pin & Link Project on Randolph and Columbus


CDOT crews are scheduled to perform steel work and bridge expansion joint rehab along Randolph Street, Columbus Drive, and Stetson Avenue. Please see details below:


General Construction Schedule:

7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday; with the occasional extension to 5:30 pm as needed. 

 

Scope of Work and Access Impacts During Construction:

In general, one lane of travel will be open at all times along each roadway, level, and direction. Access along sidewalks will remain open with detours around the work areas.  


This project is expected to be completed at the end of June 2025. Asphalt restoration will occur in July 2025.



Casino Demolition Update


The demolition team will begin site concrete crushing operations over the next eight weeks. The operation with run from 8 AM until 5 PM. The crusher will be placed in between the Ontario feeder ramp and the southern edge of the current building.
