Huckleberry hosted its 2nd Annual Leadership Circle Reception on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the beautiful home of Leadership Circle Members Dan Carroll and Stasia Obremskey.

The reception was attended by San Francisco Mayor London Breed and many longtime Huckleberry supporters. Special thanks to Ravi Kapur, Executive Chef of Liholiho Yacht Club for delighting our guests with outstanding Hawaiian fare, and many, many thanks to Dan and Stasia for hosting the event at their home!

Mayor Breed said of Huckleberry's work, "Huckleberry is special to me because it works with so many young people who I can identify with. Supporting Huckleberry is supporting hope and opportunity.  When youth are struggling and figuring out what to do and where to go, and they need help, they’re going to Huckleberry. Huckleberry is about changing lives and investing in a better future for San Francisco. "

About Huckleberry's Leadership Circle : Huckleberry launched the Leadership Circle in 2015, a fundraising initiative designed to help us achieve our long-term strategic goals. Members of the Leadership Circle show their commitment to Huckleberry's mission, and the over 7,000 youth we served last year , by donating $5,000 or more (above and beyond participation in agency events).

Program Spotlight:
Huckleberry's HIV Youth Prevention Education (HYPE)
Huckleberry's HYPE provides workshops to over 1,400 youth each year.
HIV Youth Prevention Education (HYPE) is Huckleberry's three-part classroom workshop series developed to prevent new HIV infections among young people, reduce stigma, and dispel myths and fears associated with HIV. S tudents learn facts about HIV and methods to reduce infection, including the use of PrEP, which we offer at the Huckleberry Youth Health Center SF . PrEP is a daily pill that HIV-negative individuals can take to lower their risk of becoming infected by up to 92%.
Huckleberry's HYPE workshop speakers with members of our SF Health Education Team.
One of HYPE's key components is providing young people with the opportunity to learn from and dialogue with someone personally impacted by HIV.

Our HYPE speakers are volunteers who are relatives of someone who has or had HIV, dating someone who has HIV, or are personally living with HIV.

“I learned that people with HIV are just like any other person and can still have a very normal life. Something I'll share with others is that it's okay to be different and to not judge others because you don't know that person's story.”
