-
Have you ever wondered about the Disabled Parking Enforcement vehicles in Colorado Springs? We dug into the details behind this program in our latest original article.
-
If you appreciate what we do here at Springs Taxpayers United, please feel free to chip in a few of the dollars you have left over after government takes their cut from your paycheck.
-
A meeting was held last week to address concerns some Briargate residents have over an “affordable housing” apartment complex being built in their neighborhood. Many residents claim they weren’t informed of this development. That could be because a 2022 RetoolCOS notification rule change determined they didn’t need to be informed.
-
Who in Colorado Springs government is standing up for taxpayers? Councilman Dave Donelson, that’s who. Watch his reaction to Mayor Mobolade and Chief Vasquez from CSPD asking for $5 million of your TABOR tax money for a new police academy. How much would a new academy cost? Mayor Mobolade and Chief Vasquez have no idea. They just know they need your money right now. Why is a new building more important than more officers or patrol cars?
-
This proposed new police academy would be funded, as reported, by “excess taxpayer dollars.” If you think about it, excess taxpayer dollars should not exist. Why are they taxing us so much that they have “excess dollars”? Does your job pay you extra from time to time?
-
Were you conned into repealing the Gallagher Amendment? Don't let it happen again. Prop HH is just another government scam to take more of your money to not solve a problem.
-
The Colorado Regional Air Quality Council, a group you didn’t vote for and can’t fire, has determined that gas powered lawn equipment is bad for the environment. They recommend banning the purchase of these tools by 2025. Somehow, they think buying a new electric powered mower, built from plastic in China, packaged in Styrofoam and cardboard, and shipped to the US by container ship, is better for the earth than what you have in your garage right now. Thanks for the tip, unelected technocrats.
-
A taxpayer-funded grant of $7.9 million will try to encourage Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) users to buy more fruits and vegetables. Remember last year when we were told children didn’t get enough to eat and needed taxpayer-funded school lunches? We’re seeing a trend.
-
Admission fees for some popular campgrounds and other recreation areas will be increasing. Because you simply are not paying enough to government yet.
-
Issue 2B, which voters approved in 2019, allowed the City of Colorado Springs to retain TABOR overages. Some of this money will be used to build a new dog park downtown.
-
Did your property valuation appeal get rejected by El Paso County? You have another shot at it, but you have to act by July 15th. Because we are looking out for you!
-
The State of Colorado has granted $14 million taxpayer dollars to food banks around the state. Maybe if they didn’t tax and fee people into poverty, food banks would be unnecessary.
-
The Place, a controversial proposed homeless shelter for teens being built on the west side of Colorado Springs, is hosting a fundraising breakfast.
-
Taxpayers are providing “affordable housing” funds in thirteen counties in Colorado. How unaffordable has your life become while you are forced to fund all this affordable housing?
-
Recent reports are stating that the roads in Colorado Springs are in the best shape they have been in 8 years. What do you think, are the roads in the area worth bragging about?
-
What exactly is the City of Colorado Springs Office of Community Affairs? Listen to the “Behind the Springs” podcast and hear from its new director. He says Mayor Mobolade will be heading out into the community for a listening tour, because he wants to hear from you.
-
More apartment buildings are being planned for Downtown Colorado Springs. City Council is hearing plans for a seven-story, 400-unit development south of downtown.
-
Colorado Springs is reviewing plans to annex land, homes and businesses near Powers Boulevard and Bradley Road.
-
If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.
Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more!
If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
