Mayor's Message:

Dear Friends -

On Monday, I will give my 2023 Budget Address and outline my proposed budget for next year. The public is welcome to attend the event in person at City Hall or watch the livestream on Facebook and YouTube.  

The budget document, address, and presentation will be available on the City of Kingston website on Monday afternoon, and then the Council will hold a Public Hearing to solicit community feedback. I urge everyone to take a look and understand how your tax dollars are being spent.

Redevelopment of 615 Broadway 

After an extensive RFP process, the City has selected a respondent for the redevelopment of 615 Broadway, formerly known as Broadway Commons: Baxter, a community development firm that has developed over 1,000 units of housing and over 300,000 square feet of commercial and community space throughout the Hudson Valley.

At a press conference on Wednesday, Mayor Noble and representatives from Baxter introduced conceptual drawings to the public. Inspired by the scale of the surrounding buildings on Broadway, Baxter’s proposed 615 Broadway project includes the construction of several distinct buildings with housing, commercial space, and community space on the City-owned property, which has been vacant since the demolition of the former King’s Inn in 2011.

The mixed-use development will provide approx. 60 residential units, with approximately 30% of the units to be affordable/workforce housing, reserved for individuals and families making between 80-120% AMI. The proposed project also includes a publicly accessible, covered courtyard inspired by local artist Pauline Oliveros’ deep listening plaza currently located on the site.

“This property is a pivotal space in the heart of Midtown Kingston which has been sitting vacant for far too long,” said Mayor Noble. “We’re excited for the next step in the process of developing this site into a true community asset. This partnership between the City of Kingston and Baxter that will breathe new life into the heart of the Broadway Corridor and Midtown Arts District.”

CDBG Applications Now Open

The 2023 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application process has begun. Groups and organizations operating within the City of Kingston may now apply for CDBG funding for eligible public service programs. No applications will be accepted this year for capital improvements.

Three informational meetings will be held for interested applicants to discuss eligible programs, process, and requirements. New and previous applicants and sub-recipients are encouraged to attend at least one info meeting.

Final Weeks for Broadway/Prince Landscape Survey

A survey for public input regarding the Broadway and Prince landscaping design plan will be open until Monday, October 31.

KaN Landscape Design, a local design team, has been contracted to develop landscape design plans, to serve as a blueprint for creating an attractive, inviting public space at a crucial juncture of the Kingston Greenline in the heart of Midtown. The design is expected to be completed late spring 2023.

Roadwork Update for Week of October 17

Paving: the next round of paving will be the following streets: Arlmont Street, Hillcrest Avenue, Hillsworth Avenue, and Beckett Court. Preparation in the area has already begun. Milling is expected to begin on Monday, October 17, with paving on Thursday, October 20, weather depending.

Preparation for temporary paving repair on Albany Avenue has already begun. Milling on Albany Avenue from the rail trail bridge to Flatbush Ave is expected to begin on Monday, October 24, with paving on Tuesday, October 25 and Wednesday, October 26, weather depending.

Central Hudson: Main installation will continue for the Lucas Avenue DIP project on Lucas Avenue (between Emerson and Catskill Avenue) with detours and road closures. Service replacements will continue on Westbrook Place and Sharon Lane.

City of Kingston Drought Update

Water conservation tip: reuse the water your dehumidifier collects. You can use the water from the dehumidifier tank for watering plants, cleaning your floors, washing your car and other household uses like refilling your toilet tank. Don't let these gallons of water go to waste!
