| | KPD Receives NY State GIVES Grant | |
This week, Governor Hochul announced $159,591 in funding for the Kingston City Police Department to support the Gun Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) initiative.
In seven municipalities participating in the GIVE program, shooting incidents with injury declined 15%, and seven fewer people died from gunshot wounds from January through June 2025 compared to the same time last year. The State’s multifaceted plan to continue supporting local law enforcement and community partners on the front lines of fighting gun violence have helped local law enforcement reduce shooting incidents significantly.
Mayor Steve Noble said, “I want to thank Governor Hochul for her ongoing commitment to supporting the City of Kingston’s law enforcement efforts. These resources have allowed us to reduce gun violence, especially in intimate partner situations. The impacts of these preventative measures have positive ripple effects throughout the community, and help our city to be a safer place."

The City of Kingston’s Health & Wellness team has launched a storytelling series, uplifting work happening across Kingston by featuring community members. Supported by the Creating Healthy Schools and Communities (CHSC) grant, the campaign highlighted local folks -- from Kate Berardi, the principal at Chambers Elementary School, to Devon Wood from Kingston Emergency Food Collaborative, and more. Their stories illustrate the importance of wellness – in cooking, gardening, grocery shopping, and community.
This project was supported with funds from the New York State Department of Health’s Creating Healthy Schools and Communities grant. To see the campaign, visit Live Well Kingston's Instagram and Facebook pages.
