Mayor's Message:

Dear Friends -

Today, we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. For eight decades, the UN has advanced peace, human rights, and global cooperation. Here in New York, it has also been a cornerstone of our local economy—contributing over $500 million each year through jobs and contracts that support thousands of families and businesses.

The challenges we face today—whether pandemics, climate change, or conflict—transcend national borders. That’s why it’s more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to international cooperation and the shared values that bind us together as a global community.

Thanks to Hussan Shabbir and Shantha Thangiah, local U.N. Ambassadors from the Mid-Hudson Valley Chapter, for their commitment to advocating global politics at the local level.

United Nations Day honors the spirit of collaboration that continues to make our world, and our city, stronger.

Erie Canal Boat at Hudson River Maritime Museum

Mayor Noble visited the Erie Canal Boat, Seneca Chief, on Tuesday at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. The vessel is a full-scale replica of the boat that first traveled from Buffalo to New York City 200 years ago to celebrate the completion of the Erie Canal—one of the most significant achievements in American transportation history.

As part of the celebration, the Seneca Chief crew presented the City of Kingston with an Eastern white pine, a tree of great significance to Indigenous cultures of eastern New York.

The City plans to plant the tree at Cornell Park, joining other communities along the Seneca Chief’s commemorative journey.
