Mayor's Message:

Dear Friends -

This week, we announced that the Kingston Police Department has created a Community Response Team. We know the best way to have a safer city is to work with the community to meet our goals. This innovative approach developed by Chief Tinti and our leadership brings together the best resources we have, which are our hardworking and knowledgeable officers.

This team will allow for information to seamlessly be shared across shifts and across jurisdictions with our continued partnership with the Town of Ulster Police Department. My administration is always looking for new ways to help our community and with the launch of our new Community Response Team, we are going to make further strides in ensuring our community is safe for all who live, work, or visit here.

Also, for the first time, we have a public calendar for Dietz Stadium! At long last, you are now able to check the schedule before making or planning a visit to the new and improved Dietz Stadium.

-Steve

City to Host Public Info Meeting for Tree Ordinance

KPD Launches Community Response Team

The Kingston Police Department has launched a Community Response Team (CRT), a small, focused group of officers who will perform evidence-based policing techniques and information gathering.

The Community Response Team is currently made up of 12 Kingston Police officers who have volunteered to take on additional responsibilities beyond their regular patrol duties. These officers will be working closely with members of the Detective Division and a Crime Analyst from the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center to determine “hot spots” in the community where additional services may be needed.

Kingston Police Chief Egidio Tinti said, “The new team will be implementing problem-oriented policing techniques, focusing on specific locations in the community, areas selected based on evidence and analysis. By investigating and monitoring areas that are deemed problematic by data and assessing the needs, we can then work across departments and agencies to solve problems. Whether it’s partnering with AVERT, ORACLE, or handing a situation over to the Building Department, as we work together, we will figure out what resources are needed.”

The CRT will be assigned specific locations and tasks during regular patrol hours, will submit daily reports to command staff and the Crime Analyst, which will be used to determine the next steps. Officers will continue to be assigned to their respective shifts, allowing greater coverage for information gathering and problem solving beyond the traditional unit approach.

KPD continues to partner with the Town of Ulster Police Department with shared resources to benefit and protect both communities.

City Hall Textile Event Tomorrow!

The City of Kingston, Woodstock Weavers, and the Arts Society of Kingston will host a special event, All Was Done by Hand: Home Production of the 19th Century, at City Hall on Saturday, March 29, from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Highlighting the role of textile work in the 19th century and its evolution into modern craft practices, the All Was Done By Hand event will feature demonstrations including weaving on a variety of looms, spinning yarn and wool processing, basket making, embroidery, quilting, rug hooking, and lacemaking. Spinning bees, which were used as protest in American history, and quilting bees will also be represented.
