A Message From Mayor Steve Noble:
Dear Friends,
I’m excited to welcome spring! Along with the warmer weather, we have good news about upcoming outdoor activities. Kingston will be reinstituting our Outdoor Dining/Retail Expansion program starting on April 1. We also announced this week that Parks & Recreation will be having their summer programs this year -- and the Andretta Pool will open with a new splash pad!
In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy the spring weather at one of our beautiful parks or any of the local trails. While we encourage everyone to continue being cautious about gathering indoors, we have plenty of wonderful outdoor opportunities to take advantage of.
-Steve

Outdoor Dining Program to Open April 1
The City of Kingston will be instituting the 2021 Outdoor Dining and Retail Expansion Program, which utilizes public areas to create more physical space for outdoor dining and open-air shopping.
Applications are now open. Businesses that would like to participate should contact the Mayor’s office at rverspoor@kingston-ny.gov or 845-334-3902. Sidewalk areas, in compliance with ADA regulations, can now be open for outdoor dining, with the expansion into parking stalls available starting April 1.
“We are pleased to re-open the outdoor expansion program for our local businesses this spring,” said Mayor Noble. “We had a robust response from the community, who were overwhelmingly positive about the outdoor dining program in 2020 and excited to see it return in 2021. As our City continues to bounce back from the effects of the pandemic, we urge everyone to get out and visit your favorite businesses.”
Results from the public surveys for both residents and business owners are posted at EngageKingston.com.
Mayor Noble and Alderman Don Tallerman will host their next roundtable meeting with businesses on Thursday, April 1 at 2:00pm. Please register here. The monthly meeting will take place on the first Thursday of each month.

Andretta Pool to Re-Open with Splash Pad on June 19
Andretta Pool will open for the summer on Saturday, June 19, 2021, and will be free to the public -- and will have a brand new amenity, a splash pad!
Construction on the splash pad is scheduled to begin on April 1 and is expected to be completed by the end of May. The new 30’ circular pad will include water features for all ages and abilities, such as a high shower dome, arch jets, and spray rings. Interior fencing will be removed, allowing for easy access between the pool, splash pad, and picnic area. Perimeter fencing for the entire pool facility will be replaced with black vinyl-coated fencing, which will blend with the environment.
“We are so pleased to be able to open the pool this summer, with a new splash pad,” said Mayor Noble. “The community has been asking for a splash pad for years, and we’re excited to finally be able to provide a fun and ADA-accessible amenity for all to enjoy. After a tough year with so many suffering financially, it was important that we open the pool with no cost to the community.”
Due to Covid-19 and the risk of spread, the pool facility was not able to open in 2020. However, with Downtown Revitalization Initiative funding, renovations to the pool house and pool continued and were completed in the fall. Work included installation of a new roof and masonry repairs, as well as pool lining restoration and installation of a new pump and filtration system.
These important upgrades topped a comprehensive list of health and safety issues still to be addressed, including renovations to the pool house interior. Engineering consultants from CPL are currently drafting plans for the interior work while the City seeks funding to complete the next round of renovations.
CPL evaluated existing conditions across the entire Dietz Stadium and Andretta Pool and created a Master Plan for improvements, and are drafting designs for several of the elements on the Stadium side. Some DRI funding remains for a portion of the work, but the City must secure approximately $10 million more in order to undertake all of the repairs and upgrades identified in the Master Plan. Once the work is completed, the Dietz Stadium and Andretta Pool Complex will be a modern, world-class sports facility for Kingston residents and will draw visitors from across the Hudson Valley and beyond.
Kingston Point Beach will be opening on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 with many of the same Covid restrictions as in 2020.

In recognition of one year of service, Mayor Noble declared March 18, 2021 as “Kingston Emergency Food Collaborative Day” in the City of Kingston. He presented a proclamation to the KEFC on Thursday at a small ceremony.
“I want to whole-heartedly thank the KEFC for their unwavering support of our community during an unbelievably hard time,” said Mayor Noble. “I want to thank all of the volunteers who put themselves in harm’s way to deliver meals and groceries in our community’s greatest time of need. There is no greater act as a neighbor and I commend the KEFC and thank them for one year of dedicated service.”
KEFC is made up of multiple organizations, grassroots organizers, City of Kingston staff, and individual volunteers who came together to remove barriers to food access and ensure that no member of the community went hungry during the pandemic.
