Mayor's Message:
Dear Friends -
Last year, I visited each of the nine wards for listening meetings, and was able to hear directly from residents about their concerns in their own neighborhoods. These meetings are a part of my ongoing effort to open the lines of communication and increase transparency into City government. I realize it’s not always easy for folks to reach out to elected officials, so my hope is that this listening tour will be an effective way to connect with residents and to be able to address their concerns.
I look forward to again joining the Council members in hosting these meetings throughout the community.
We are expecting a significant amount of snow tomorrow. Stay tuned for Snow Emergency information in your inbox tomorrow! When in doubt, the best place for vehicles is off the street.
-Steve

Kingston Awarded Funding for Parking Study
|
The City of Kingston was awarded $100,000 from Empire State Development for a Citywide Parking Study.
With the funding from the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Development Council’s Strategic Planning and Feasibility Studies Program, the City of Kingston will conduct a citywide parking study, which will evaluate existing conditions and identify areas where capacity can be better utilized, and new parking can be created.
Mayor Noble said, “We are pleased to receive this funding for a parking study, which will help us better understand our current parking needs and gain some understanding of how we can improve in the future. While we are committed to creating a walkable, bikeable community with our ongoing efforts of installing bike infrastructure, sidewalk improvements like the ADA curb ramps, and development of the Greenline, among other efforts, we know that parking has long been an issue in Kingston, and we need to right-size our parking offerings. I want to thank our Parking Task Force who helped put together an RFP so that we are now able to move forward quickly with the study.”
In August 2023, Mayor Noble and Common Council President Andrea Shaut announced a Parking Task Force, which was formed to gather community input regarding parking issues in the City of Kingston and create a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the comprehensive parking management study.
Council President Andrea Shaut said, “After extensive conversations with the public and amongst ourselves through the city-wide rezoning efforts, it was clear to the Common Council that parking was a concern for many. Furthermore, this issue has been of concern for many years. It is exciting to have access to these funds to address the issues in a comprehensive manner. I look forward to working with members of the Council and the public on how we can use the eventual findings to resolve these long-standing issues that many of us share.”

Mayor Statement Regarding Pike Plan Removal
|
I want to thank the Common Council for their support voting in favor of removing the Pike Plan canopies.
The Pike Plan, as it partially stands today, was not well constructed and has come to the end of its useful life. With this approval, we will soon be going out to bid to begin the removal work. We will also meet with the adjoining property owners and tenants in the coming weeks to discuss the next steps, the removal process, and façade repairs. We expect demolition to occur in April.
As a City, we have been working toward reversing the harms of Urban Renewal, and I believe restoring our beautiful historic buildings will be a great step in the right direction, and returning the facades to their original grandeur will bolster the economic vitality of Uptown Kingston.
During this process, we have been met with a steady stream of lawsuits that have threatened our efforts to improve our City and protect our residents. In repeatedly suing the City of Kingston, William Gottlieb Real Estate has attempted to drain the City of funds and resources, but we will continue to stand against this powerful corporate interest and do what is necessary to protect Kingston residents.
