Dear Friends -
In Kingston, we are proud to honor Juneteenth, and look forward to the many events in and around Kingston this weekend that will celebrate freedom and the end of slavery.
As of 2022, Juneteenth is an official City of Kingston holiday, and will be observed on Monday, June 19. City offices will be closed and trash/recycling pick-up will be delayed one day next week.

City-wide ADA Curb Ramp Project to Begin in June | |
The Citywide ADA Curb Ramp Project has begun. The bid was awarded to Callanan Industries, Inc. and construction will begin in June.
The Citywide ADA Ramps Project will install 136 ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections and crosswalks throughout the City of Kingston. The project is expected to begin on June 26, and be completed by November 2023.
Curb ramps will be installed Uptown on N. Front, Main Street, Pearl Street and Elizabeth Street; in Midtown on Stephan Street and Clifton Ave, and Downtown on McEntee, Walnut, Hunter and Abeel Streets. A map of the locations for the ADA-compliant curb ramps can be found here.
The Citywide ADA Ramps Project is funded with the City of Kingston’s ARPA funding and the City’s NYSDOT CHIPS allocation.

Next ARPA Community Events Grant Awardees | |
The next round of APRA Community Events Grant Program awards for a total of $22,300 across five community groups was awarded to:
- Kingston Waterfront Business Association ($2,500), for the monthly Night Market on the Kingston Waterfront;
- YWCA Ulster County ($5,000) for the YWCA Ulster County’s 100th Birthday Jamboree on June 30;
- People’s Place for the People’s Place ($4,800) for their Annual Chef Challenge on July 18;
- Parks & Trails NY ($5,000) for the Free Community Concert at the Hutton Brickyards on July 31; and
- Edie’s Fairytale Theater ($5,000) for the Young Artists Music Festival at the Old Dutch Church on August 25.
The 2023 Community Events Grant Program is made possible with Federal funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. The City has allocated $375,000 to support local events in 2023 as part of city-wide pandemic recovery efforts.
Funding is available for events taking place through the end of December 2023. Grant applications will be accepted through Friday, November 1, 2023. More info, a list of eligible expenses, and the application can be found at: www.engagekingston.com/arpa-community-events-grant-program.

Mayor Noble's Tuesday radio show is on hiatus during the campaign season, but in its place, he will be doing a weekly update on Facebook Live each Tuesday at 5:00pm to give a brief update on the latest City of Kingston news.

Kingston Point Beach to Open Saturday | |
Kingston Point Beach will open on Saturday, June 17, 2023. The beach will be open, with lifeguards on duty, Wednesdays through Sundays from 10:00am to 4:45pm. Hours for the beach are subject to change, based on staffing and weather. Access to the beach is free.
Updates on beach closures due to weather and related news will be posted on the pool/beach Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/AndrettaPool. Information about swim lessons or general questions about water safety, can be sent to aquatics@kingston-ny.gov.
As previously announced, the Andretta Pool will open to the public on June 24, 2023. The pool schedule can be found here.

Paving & Roadwork Next Week | |
Madden Street, Arlington Place, and Field Court were milled today. Paving is expected to begin Thursday, June 22 and be completed by Friday, June 23, weather depending.
Central Hudson: Main work and service replacements will continue next week on Elizabeth Street and Wall Street with road closures and detours.
Prospect St - Gas service replacements will continue the week of 6/19/23 with road closures and detours.
Gas installation will begin next week on W. Chester St, Mary’s Ave, and Montrepose Ave with road closures and detours.
Sterling Street Sewer Project: completing restoration.
Henry Street Safe Routes to School Project: granite curbing is being installed on the south side of Henry Street. Crews will begin installing concrete sidewalks along the south side of Henry Street.

The Kingston Water Department is accepting applications for Business Manager, to oversee business office. Applications are due June 23, 2023. A job description and applications may be obtained from the Civil Service Office in City Hall or online at https://kingston-ny.gov/Employment.

Police Officer Exam - September 9, 2023. The deadline to apply for the Police Officer Exam is July 7, 2023. The Physical Agility Exam will be given on July 29, 2023.

The City of Kingston has over 25 boards & commissions, and we're always looking for volunteers to serve the community. Currently there are openings on the Kingston City Land Bank board and the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Grow Well Kingston's Community Gardens Bike Ride | |
Join Grow Well Kingston for a garden tour on Saturday, July 1, 2023, from 9:00am – 12:30pm. The tour will visit five of the City of Kingston’s community gardens. Learn about the gardens, meet the garden stewards, share the love of gardening, and meet new neighbors. The tour will be via bicycle, but it’s not a requirement to participate - meet at the gardens at the approx. times below:
- 9:00am - George Washington Elementary School Garden, 67 Wall Street (meet behind the building in the Washington Ave side parking lot.)
- 9:45am - South Pine Street City Farm, 27 South Pine Street
- 10:30am - Barmann Park Garden, on Greenkill Ave, across from the Boys & Girls Club
- 11:15am - YMCA Farm Project at the YMCA, behind 507 Broadway, near Susan St.
- Noon - Rondout Gardens Community Garden, Murray St. at Rondout Dr.
Wear comfortable clothes, have water, sunblock, snacks, and anything else to be comfortable. Bring food and stay for a picnic lunch at the end of the tour.
The event is rain or shine. If needed, cancellation will be decided 24 hours before and announced on the Facebook event here.

Kingston Rail Crossing Study Open House | |
The Kingston 311 app, website and phone system allow residents to quickly and easily report issues and submit service requests. The Kingston 311 app, available for Android & iPhones, is a fast and simple way to connect to City officials in non-emergency situations.
This system is a valuable resource to submit service requests for streetlight replacement, roadwork, City signage, traffic calming measures and other concerns. Issues with snow removal and reporting of vehicles and sidewalks not in accordance with the Snow Emergency restrictions can also be submitted via Kingston 311. Photos can also be attached to illustrate service orders. Dial 311 from any phone within City limits to reach us.
