Dear Friends -
We are working hard to make the recycling transition as seamless as possible. Many people received their new tote this week, and the remaining totes will be delivered next week. We have sent out information in the mail along with the revised calendar of pick-up schedule. We had a public meeting with a very informative presentation, which you can find at
www.kingston-ny.gov/recycle. Aldermen have held meetings and passed out information to their constituents. Those signed up for our Swift911 emergency alerts received a call or text today as well. We are asking our residents to share this information with elderly or any persons you think may not have received these communications.
Together, we can make this happen! The benefits of dual-stream recycling are 1.) it's going to cost the City less 2.) more materials will be recycled, as last year we lost an average of 2.67 tons a month to contamination.
Spring is a great time to get involved in your community. I've included a few opportunities here, including an opening on the Housing Authority Board, a great job skills-building opportunity for teens and young adults, and a list of upcoming municipal meetings.
City Hall has a new exhibition going up next week, works by artists who were inspired by the late Kingston composer, Pauline Oliveros. The opening reception on Saturday, April 6 will feature sonic art and performances. Hope to see you there!

Dual-Stream Recycling Changes News
Delivery of the new recycling totes for paper and cardboard started this week! Starting now, a
ll paper and cardboard pr
oducts must be removed from your existing tote (separated from glass, plastic and metal), and placed in your new yellow-lidded tote.
Set aside paper products in a safe and dry place if your yellow-lidded tote has not yet arrived.
Next week, DPW will be picking up glass, plastic and metal ONLY in your existing tote.
The week of April 8, DPW will be picking up paper and cardboard only in the new blue tote with yellow lid. The City of Kingston's Public Works Department will be removing the existing black or blue lids affixed to the current blue tote, with a new blue lid starting the week of April 15.
Week of April 1 Glass, plastic and metal. No paper/cardboard.
Week of April 8 Paper/cardboard picked up in tote with yellow lid.
Week of April 15 Put your existing tote on the curb so DPW can swap lids.
This change is due to global changes in the market, and locally due to a mandate from the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency (UCRRA), our recycling disposal site, which has issued tighter restrictions in reaction to changing demands. UCRRA will no longer accept single-stream recycling after March 31.

Beloved Local Composer Honored at City Hall Exhibition
The City of Kingston's Department of Art and Cultural Affairs is continuing its collaboration with local arts organizations to produce compelling art exhibitions for the ground floor of City Hall with
Pauline Oliveros: Still Listening in Kingston. The exhibition will feature 23 artists, whose works are visual representations of music inspired by composer and artist Pauline Oliveros. The opening reception, which will feature sonic art and performances throughout, will be held at City Hall on April 6, from 3:00-5:00pm.
Having works inspired by one of Kingston's most treasured artists and giving visitors to City Hall the chance to learn more about Pauline, is a wonderful use of our ground floor gallery space. I am pleased to have an opportunity to further honor her legacy, and am excited to see what inspiration we'll see in the artists' work.
Pauline Oliveros (1932-2016) was a groundbreaking composer, performer, and humanitarian. Her work spanned many disciplines, with a focus on unearthing our complex relationship to sound. Oliveros founded the Deep Listening Institute in Kingston, and was a vital member of Kingston's creative community. Her lifelong devotion to the arts was celebrated in a tribute concert at Kingston City Hall in 2017. In 2018, Oliveros was honored with the dedication of the Deep Listening Plaza, formerly the Broadway Commons.
Pauline Oliveros: Still Listening in Kingston will be on display from April 6-June 28, 2019 during regular City Hall hours (8:30am-4:30pm).

Job Skills-Building Opportunity for Kingston Young Adults (Ages 16-24)
Local community agencies are working together to implement a door-to-door neighborhood survey in parts of Midtown Kingston, April 13th-16. The survey will gather input from local residents about their satisfaction with the quality and availability of a variety of community resources, and to gain a deeper understanding of the issues community members are facing. The survey will be available in English and Spanish, and the results will be shared with the community once this phase of the project is complete. Partnering agencies include Family of Woodstock, Inc., Rise Up Kingston, Citizen Action of the Hudson Valley, and the City of Kingston.
As part of this survey effort, a total of twenty City of Kingston adolescents and young adults, ages 16-24, will participate in a paid job skills-building opportunity and will serve as interviewers. They will be trained and supervised by experienced agency leaders, adult interviewers and volunteers and will learn vital employment skills, including interpersonal communication, time management, active listening, and record-keeping. Applications for this youth employment opportunity are available at the Everette Hodge Community Center, located at 15-21 Franklin St. In order to be considered, individuals MUST complete the application and return it during the
on-site open interview, on Saturday, April 6th, 10:00am-2:00pm at the Everette Hodge Community Center. Individuals must be available for the duration of the survey period, which coincides with a portion of the Kingston City School District's Spring Break.

Vacancy on the Housing Authority Board
There is an opening on the City of Kingston's Housing Authority Board, and applications are currently being accepted. I encourage all interested parties to apply for this important position.
The Kingston Housing Authority provides homes for low-income City of Kingston families.
Since 1948, hundreds of apartments were constructed and have provided the foundations for family and elderly communities around Kingston. The Authority owns and manages 481 units of affordable housing at six complexes in the city of Kingston: Colonial Gardens, Colonial Gardens Addition, Wiltwyck Gardens, Rondout Gardens, Stuyvesant Charter and Brigham Senior Housing.

I had the pleasure of talking with Kingston Chief of Police Egidio Tinti on Monday's radio show, "Mondays with the Mayor" on Radio Kingston. We discussed
the Peaceful Guardian program, the Intimate Partner Violence Intervention program, the department's well-earned SWAT Team certification, the new electric cars patrol cars and more.
Radio Kingston just announced they are now on FM! In addition to airing at
