Message From Mayor Sullivan

Dear fellow Brocktonians,

I hope this newsletter finds you well. We certainly have a lot going on in Brockton. The ARPA-funded municipal renovation projects and the Public Safety Building are well underway. Brockton Hospital/Signature Healthcare is preparing to re-open their doors. We are excited for the debut of the new Marvelous Marvin Hagler Park and statue which in the spring. Residential development and construction are in various stages around the City. The Brockton Rox and the New England Knockouts baseball teams are starting in just a couple of months. Look forward to announcements on our FaceBook page regarding the above-mentioned events.

Mayor, City Council, and School Committee Sworn In On January 1, 2024

Mayor Sullivan, the Brockton City Council, and the Brockton School Committee were officially sworn-in at the 2024 Inauguration Ceremony, held at Brockton City Hall. Mayor Sullivan’s inaugural address detailed the ongoing investment and development within the City. The Mayor also stressed the need for all elected officials to collaborate and cooperate in order to address and solve challenges together. United States Congressman Stephen Lynch, State Senator Mike Brady, State Representative Gerry Cassidy, State Representative Rita Mendes, Plymouth County Registry of Deeds John Buckley, Plymouth County Clerk of Court Robert Creedon, and Plymouth County Commissioner Greg Hanley honored us by attending the inaugural event. We thank City Clerk Tim Cruise for hosting this event, and his administrative staff for organizing this wonderful ceremony.

Brockton Hospital/Signature Healthcare

On February 7, 2023, a 10-alarm electrical fire broke out at Brockton Hospital/Signature Healthcare, forcing the hospital to close.

Mayor Sullivan worked diligently with area healthcare agencies including Brockton Hospital/Signature Healthcare to mitigate the negative impact the hospital's closure would have on area residents.

The hospital is finally set to re-open either in the spring or summer of 2024. The newly reimagined hospital will feature a newly designed Emergency Room, expanded operating rooms and behavioral health facilities, and state-of-the-art amenities.

"It is going to provide excellent, quality healthcare to Brocktonians and beyond," said Mayor Sullivan.

Keep Brockton Beautiful Clean-up Day is May 18th at 9:00 am

Join Mayor Sullivan to pick up trash and litter around the City.

Registration, job assignments, and materials pick-up: Heights Crossing, 35 Christy’s Place

Registration: 7:30–9:00 am

Clean-up: 9:00–12:00 pm

Post-event cookout at Heights Crossing: 12:00–1:00 pm

This is a fun and productive way to give back and beautify our City.

Introducing Brockton's New Director of Immigration Affairs

Ms. Courtney Henderson is our City's new Director of Immigration Affairs. As was detailed in Mayor Sullivan's State of the City last year, Ms. Henderson will be a resource for those coming to Brockton from all over the world, seeking a better life.

Courtney comes to Brockton from the City of Somerville's Office of Immigration Affairs where she served as the Multilingual Public Information Officer. During her tenure, she developed a deep appreciation for the diverse needs of immigrant communities. She has a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Spanish from Fisk University, complemented by a master's degree in International Relations from Harvard University

Mayor Sullivan Presents "Championing the Future: Mayor's Message of Progress”

On Thursday, February 15th, Mayor Sullivan was honored to present to the attendees at the Metro South Chamber of Commerce luncheon, "Championing the Future: Mayor's Message of Progress.” The presentation featured updates on the ARPA-funded municipal renovation projects, the Public Safety Building, Brockton Hospital/Signature Healthcare, Good Samaritan Medical Center, Marvelous Marvin Hagler Park, Residential development and construction, Brockton Rox and the New England Knockouts baseball teams, and new Brockton restaurants and businesses.

Women's History Month Women's Health Drive

In honor of Women's History Month, Mayor Sullivan's office is collecting items for women in our community who are in need. The drive will be held between March 1st and March 29th. Please bring donations to the Mayor's Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am–4:00 pm. Items being collected are:

Feminine Hygiene Products (tampons, pads, panty liners)
Unscented body safe wipes
Underwear (women and children, all sizes)
Hair elastics
Toiletries (deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste)
Toilet paper
Tissues
First-aid items

Brockton Celebrates Black History Month

Brockton's greatest strength is our diversity and we take every opportunity to celebrate it. For the 2024 Black History Month series, we decided to feature some lesser-known African American historic figures. The impact these individuals have had on American history can not be overstated. Enjoy learning about these eight individuals who paved the way.
