WHAT WORKS CITIES AWARD

GLENDALE EARNS TOP INTERNATIONAL HONOR FOR EXCEPTIONAL USE OF DATA

Glendale is proud to announce that Results for America has awarded it Bloomberg Philanthropies What Works Cities platinum certification for establishing exceptional data capabilities to inform policy, allocate funding, improve services, evaluate programs and engage residents. The What Works Cities Certification standard reflects the practices, policies and infrastructure municipalities must have in place to effectively harness data for better decision-making.

RAY MALNAR APPOINTED VICE MAYOR

I want to congratulate Councilmember Raymond “Ray” Malnar on his appointment by the Glendale City Council as our new Vice Mayor. He is a proven leader with nearly a decade of service on our council. He has a strong commitment to public service and approaches every decision with the best interests of our residents firmly in mind.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Vallarta Grand Opening

Earlier this week we proudly celebrated the grand opening of Vallarta Supermarkets in Glendale. This new location marks Vallarta’s first store in Arizona, joining a successful family of 61 stores in California. Vallarta’s investment brings more than 200 new local jobs to our community, and their early commitment to Glendale is already evident with a $7,500 donation to local causes. We are excited to welcome Vallarta Supermarkets as a new community partner and neighborhood destination.

Be sure to watch 12News on Monday, as Allison Rodriguez and I talk about the brand new Vallarta Supermarkets in Glendale.

Pencco Inc. Grand Opening

We officially cut the ribbon at Pencco on Friday morning. With more than 40 years of experience in water treatment, Pencco chose Glendale for its newest production plant—its first and only facility in Arizona. Founded in 1984, this family-owned company is a strong addition to our community, and we look forward to the local jobs and long-term partnership they bring to Glendale.

MLK Day of Service

Throughout his life, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advocated for peace, unity, and service. He was committed to creating positive change in his community and so are the many volunteers here in Glendale. The MLK Day of Service is an annual tribute to the life and legacy of Dr. King, and an opportunity to give back by donating vitamin-rich citrus to families in need.

Be a part of the change and help make a difference today!

The Glendale Community Services Department will host two drop-off locations for residents to donate excess citrus harvested from their own properties. All donated citruses will be provided to the St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance.

Drop-Off Locations:

  • Sahuaro Ranch Park
  • 9802 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85302
  • Manistee Ranch Park
  • 5127 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301
  • (Parking lot located on 51st Ave., south of Northern Ave.)

Please bring your freshly picked citrus (all varieties welcome) to one of the following locations on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Volunteers will be on-site to accept donations.

For more information, please email Stephanie Fenderson-Gonzales or call

(623) 930-3582.

MLK HOLIDAY HOURS

The city of Glendale offices will be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 19, but some services will still be offered to residents and visitors.
