PROJECT MOVER LAUNCHED

Project MOVER, the e-bikeshare program for the Westchester Rivertowns, launched in Croton-on-Hudson on July 9th. The launch celebration at the Grand Street entrance to Dobbs Park welcomed village residents for a kick-off event.

The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony with local leaders, opportunities for test rides, and information on how to participate. Project MOVER hubs are now available at several locations throughout Croton, including the Croton-Harmon Train Station, Dobbs Park, Holy Name of Mary Church, Maple Commons, South Riverside Avenue, and the Croton Free Library. Each hub has 5 or 6 bikes, easily accessible via an app and QR code.

Project MOVER is part of a regional initiative that began in the summer of 2024 in the Village of Ossining with support from NYSERDA. It has since expanded to the Town of Ossining, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, and now Croton. Dobbs Ferry is expected to join the program soon. This regional approach means you can pick up a bike in Croton and drop it off at any hub in other participating communities.

To help residents get started, the Village prepared an informative video explaining how Project MOVER works and answering common questions. You can watch this video in both English and Spanish. Additional coverage of Project MOVER’s launch can be found in the River Journal and program details can be found on our project page

JULY 4TH CELEBRATED

This past Independence Day, living history presenters Duane Jackson and Joe Cerrito, and Village Historian Marc Cheshire conducted a captivating Revolutionary History Re-enactment Showcase at Van Cortlandt Manor. Costumed presenters brought history to life, portraying soldiers from the 1st Rhode Island and 2nd New York Regiments. They explored local battles fought by pioneering Black soldiers and provided an overview of the Continental Army, including the history of the 2nd New York Regiment. The event also delved into what soldiers wore, how they lived and fought, and featured a musket firing demonstration.

The presentation covered the origins of the First Rhode Island Regiment, details of the Battle of Rhode Island, and the Battle of Pine Bridge fought in Yorktown Heights, NY. Attendees gained insights into a crucial chapter of Revolutionary War history, culminating in a lively question and answer session.

SOLARIZE WEBINAR NEXT THURSDAY

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson is participating in Sustainable Westchester Residential Solarize 2025 campaign, aiming to help 3,000 Westchester homeowners transition to solar this year. This initiative comes at a crucial time, as electricity rates are increasing, making solar an attractive option with available incentives (while they last).

As part of Solarize, homeowners are connected with pre-qualified installer partners for proposals and financing options, all at no cost. Sustainable Westchester has rigorously vetted these installers, including Green Hybrid Energy Solutions, Infinity Energy, New York State Solar Farm, and SunBlue Energy, based on their workmanship, pricing, and experience. All approved installers have high quality assurance ratings from NYSERDA (New York State Research and Development Authority) and offer below-average prices.

An informational webinar will be held on Thursday, July 17 at 7 PM. To register, please click here.

PLUS ONE ADU WEBINAR ON 7/29

The Plus One ADU program offers a solution for housing costs for low- to moderate-income homeowners in specific Westchester communities. This program, a partnership between Habitat for Humanity New York City and Westchester County, the NYS Housing Trust Fund Corporation, Housing Action Council, and select municipalities, helps eligible homeowners build or legalize Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their property. ADUs, also known as granny flats or accessory apartments, can be interior conversions (basement, attic, garage) or small, stand-alone units, providing an opportunity to generate rental income or house family members.

To qualify, homeowners must have a household income at or below 120% of the Area Median Income, reside in an owner-occupied single-family home in a community zoned for ADUs (Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson, Irvington, and Yorktown), and commit to renting the ADU long-term. The program provides grants of up to $125,000 to cover design, permits, materials, and construction costs, although a homeowner contribution may be necessary to complete the project.

A virtual information session is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29 at 6 PM to inform interested residents. To register, please click here.

TRAFFIC DETAIL ON PATROL

Traffic concerns consistently rank among the top of the public safety priorities of village residents. The 2025-26 budget adopted by the Board of Trustees brought the Croton-on-Hudson Police Department up to 22 officers, its peak since 2009.

This additional staffing in the Police Department has enabled the police to deploy a special traffic detail. The officer on this assignment is tasked with addressing speeding, reckless driving and other moving violations.

Since the detail restarted on June 16, 2025, more than 75 traffic citations have been issued, and two arrests have been made. Additional officers were also deployed for the July 4th holiday as part of Westchester County's High Visibility Stop-DWI Enforcement Campaign.

Motorists are reminded that the speed limit throughout the Village is 25 MPH, unless otherwise posted. Research shows that faster driving speeds are associated with more serious injuries and fatalities for pedestrians in the event of a crash. Please drive safely and carefully.

CROTON FEATURED IN WESTCHESTER WEEKLY UPDATE

Thank you to Ken Jenkins for giving me the opportunity to join the Westchester County Government weekly briefing and share with our neighbors all the exciting things happening in Croton-on-Hudson, including our recent awards, the July 4th Reenactment at Van Cortlandt Manor and delicious local ice cream available at The Blue Pig Ice Cream.

NEW DAILY PARKING OPTIONS

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson, which owns and operates the parking lot at the Croton-Harmon train station, has converted 43 permit parking spaces to daily parking. This change was made to adapt to evolving commuting habits since the pandemic. These new daily spaces, numbered 532-574, are located in Section H (formerly the back area of Section I).

You have two convenient options to pay for daily parking. Pay machines are located in Section H (the daily section) and in front of the station house in Section D. Please remember your space number, as you will need to enter it on the machine. Choose the amount of time you wish to park and the associated rate. Payment at the machines can be made by credit card or with cash (exact amount only as the machines do not give change).

Alternatively, you can pay using your mobile phone. Simply download the Parkmobile mobile app, call 1-877-727-5730, or visit Parkmobile.io. For the Croton-Harmon Station, you'll need to enter Zone #424. After that, just follow the prompts to finalize your payment.

US FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF-STAFF

In observance of the US Flag Code, the American flag at the Stanley H. Kellerhouse Municipal Building has been lowered to half-staff at the direction of the governor.

Flag were lowered on July 10th for West Colesville Fire Chief James Sitek, who died on the line of duty earlier this month.

On Friday, June 27th, the flags are at half-staff in honor of former Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, who passed away on June 26th.

Previously, on Monday, June 16th, the flags were lowered to half-staff to honor Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman. They tragically passed away on June 14th during politically targeted shootings in Minnesota.

May they rest in peace, and may their families find comfort during these difficult times.

REMINDER RE: IMMIGRATION POLICY

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson and its Police Department prioritize resident safety and community trust by not inquiring about immigration status unless it's crucial to a criminal investigation. Croton police officers are not authorized to detain or arrest individuals based solely on immigration status. It is also important to know that there are situations where the Village Police are required under law to work with federal authorities, such as when a judicial criminal warrant has been issued.

This policy, endorsed by the Village Board, aims to ensure all residents feel safe reporting crimes, fostering an inclusive and welcoming community for everyone. The Croton-on-Hudson Police Dept. recorded a public service announcement on immigration for Village residents in March. Please share this message so it can reach all members of our community.

LEGAL RESOURCES AVAILABLE TO RESIDENTS
