MAYOR'S SPECIAL EDITION
JAN. 10, 2023
Best Wishes for a Healthy and Prosperous 2023!
With the holidays now behind us, I wanted to show my gratitude and take stock of all the positives that occurred in 2022. The Village of Schaumburg enjoyed additional growth, welcomed new businesses and developments, and continued its practice of offering our residents high-quality services.

The village had much to celebrate this past year. Below are just a few of the top accomplishments with additional milestones listed on the village’s website:

  • Results of the National Community Survey (NCS) indicated that Schaumburg meets or exceeds national benchmarks, including:
  • 95% of respondents rate the village as an excellent or good place to live.
  • 93% rated their overall quality of life in Schaumburg as excellent or good.
  • 94% of respondents would recommend Schaumburg as a place to raise a family.
  • 91% gave positive ratings to the overall image or reputation of Schaumburg.
  • Village officials approved a measure to maintain the village’s property tax levy at the same amount that was levied in 2021. Since 2009, the village has had a property tax levy that has been reduced or maintained every year.
  • Village officials agreed to provide a $150 property tax rebate for owner-occupied households to assist residents. Payments are forthcoming in early 2023.
  • The Village of Schaumburg is pleased to announce that the financial services firm S&P Global Ratings has reaffirmed the village’s AAA bond rating, which is the highest rating a municipality can obtain.
  • The first phase of the Entertainment District development was approved, allowing Kensington Development Partners to move forward with the construction of Andretti Indoor Karting & Games facility, a building pad for another entertainment user, a building pad for a restaurant user, and a 900-space parking structure.
  • New businesses opened in Schaumburg last year including Take 5 Oil Change, Pho Day, X-Golf, The North Face, Charles Schwab, TE'Amo Boba Bar, Predicine, Revv Aviation, Kong Dog, The Local Kitchen and Tap, and more.
  • The village transitioned to a new refuse and recycling service, Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) in May saving the village over $500,000 per year for each of the next 5 years. Together, the Village of Schaumburg and LRS will offer multiple community recycling events each year.
  • The annual Septemberfest returned for its 51st year on Labor Day weekend. This past year's full, three-day festival hosted musical acts on three stages, fireworks, carnival, food and beverage tents, and much more for an estimated 250,000 visitors.
  • The Village of Schaumburg hosted five community blood drives at The Barn in 2022 with a total of more than 200 participants. Each participant's donation can save up to three lives, meaning a potential 600 lives were saved. Many thanks to those who donated.
  • Schaumburg’s continued success in the areas of engineering and public works, public safety, finance, information technology, human resources and economic development was rewarded with several industry awards and designations of excellence.

With a new year upon us, we look forward to what 2023 will bring in terms of additional investments and enhancements to the community. New projects on the horizon include:

  • The long-awaited grand opening of Tony's Fresh Market at 200 S. Roselle Rd. in Town Square.
  • Primark opening in the upper level of the old Sears at Woodfield Mall.
  • Continued construction on Phase 2 of the 90 North District Park, which will serve as an outdoor venue with various amenities for the public.
  • Continued multi-family residential development at Northgate at Veridian and the Quin Apartments in 90 North Schaumburg.
  • Continued single-family residential developments at Summit Grove and Verde Estates.
  • More new businesses opening including Kiddie Academy at 1121 E. Higgins Rd., Diamonds Direct at 1701 E. Golf Rd., and Joong Boo Market at 1111 E. Golf Rd.
  • Several new restaurants coming to Schaumburg including Byrd’s Hot Chicken at Woodfield Mall, Cilantro Taco Grill at 650 Mall Dr., Guzman y Gomez Mexican Kitchen at 795 E. Golf Rd., and Tapville Social at Woodfield Mall.
  • Continued investment in infrastructure with key projects including:
  • Bode Road (Barrington to Springinsguth)
  • National Parkway (Higgins to Woodfield)
  • Springinsguth Road (Bode to Schaumburg)

  • Additional capital improvements including $2.6 million in bikeway improvements over the next five years and a $1.5 million culvert improvement project on Springinsguth Road to address flooding and reduce erosion near Atcher Park.

On behalf of the Village Board, I am extremely proud of our accomplishments from 2022, and I look forward to a successful year ahead. Thank you to our dedicated village board members, staff and advisory committees, and volunteers who continue to make Schaumburg a special community for all to enjoy.
