Dear Friends and Neighbours,

It has been a whirlwind of excitement and transformation for our beloved Town in recent months, and I wanted to take a moment to share some significant updates with you all.

Over my 30 plus years as a resident here and 20 plus years as a member of Town Council, I have witnessed the beauty and strength of Caledon and worked to make our communities stronger by working with residents, staff and stakeholders to implement policies and procedures that foster economic opportunities while ensuring that our residents receive net positive benefits from any of the corporate citizens here in the Town.

During my candidacy, I visited every community in the Town of Caledon and along with my small but mighty team, knocked on every door we could find. Door after door after door, one theme always came to the forefront: “The Town is not meeting the expectations of the residents.”

After hearing all this I decided that the culture at Town Hall had to focus on answering one question: “How can we help you?”

As a candidate, I proposed an action plan for the Town of Caledon that focuses on improving communication, enhancing service delivery, and addressing local priorities. As your Mayor, I am implementing it. For example, we have signed a deal with several telecommunications providers to roll out broadband internet across Caledon.

Our Town is facing unprecedented growth and with the Province of Ontario’s plan to build 1.4M new homes and the upcoming dissolution of Peel Region, Caledon is being presented with both opportunities and challenges. To navigate this exciting yet complex journey, I have begun to implement "Caledon Ahead” to ensure our community is prepared to meet the future head on while protecting the essential qualities of the Caledon we all know and love.

But change does not stop at the mayoral office. Our Town’s new CAO, Nathan Hyde, brings years of experience as a municipal CAO to the table. Nathan also has extensive experience working at the municipal, regional, provincial, and federal levels of government—notably, at the Region of Peel. This experience allows him to bring unique insight into navigating the world of municipal growth.

In the short time that Mr. Hyde has been here, he has already introduced proactive changes to set a strong foundation for Caledon's future as a single-tier municipality. These changes include streamlining our organizational structure for better collaboration, enhancing fiscal accountability through an Internal Auditor, and preparing to take on more responsibilities from Peel Region.

These changes alone will account for savings of over $1 million a year.

While change can be uncomfortable, it is crucial for our growth. To meet the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead, Town Hall must become more ambitious and build upon the hard work of its residents over the last few years. I am personally ready to seize the moment and make Caledon a shining example for other municipalities to follow.

As residents of this wonderful Town, your desire for change took me from candidate to Mayor and I thank you again for your support and trust. It is an honour to serve as your Mayor, and I am ready to lead Caledon into a bold, new future, because as the saying goes, “fortune favours the bold.”

Let's do this together!

Best wishes,

Annette Groves
