A Message from Mayor Susan Shin Angulo
|
|
Dear Neighbor:
Over the last few weeks, Cherry Hill Township has partnered with Touch New Jersey Food Alliance to distribute free boxes of fresh produce to those in need throughout our community.
On Thursday, Council President David Fleisher and Councilwoman Sangeeta Doshi, along with Township staff and several resident volunteers, joined us for another successful food distribution at Cherry Hill High School East. Since the end of July, we have helped feed hundreds of people by distributing over 1,700 boxes of free food to members in our community.
I'd like to thank Touch New Jersey Food Alliance, the Cherry Hill Police Department, our many resident volunteers, members of Township Council, and Township staff for helping make this event possible. I'd also like to thank Wegmans for donating bottled water and snacks for the volunteers.
Please continue to check our website and social media accounts for future events. And as always, we will continue to look for ways to help best serve our community during these difficult times.
Please continue to stay safe and be well.
Sincerely,
|

Join our community effort to become a NWF Wildlife Friendly Habitat
|
|
|
|
Bernadette Exley, of Erlton, has created a rich and colorful wildlife habitat in both her front and back yards. Fritillary butterflies, bumblebees, hummingbirds, and a host of other species happily share the garden bounty, which hosts both native perennials and colorful annuals. These plants provide ample seed, pollen and nectar for all of her wild "neighbors". Water features provide hydration, and shrubs and trees offer nesting sites and shelter.
Bernadette likes the motto: "Don't clear the table until everyone is done eating." This means that plants are not removed when they have died, but remain until the birds and other wildlife have been able to eat all the seeds.
Over 100 Cherry Hill residents, like Bernadette, have joined the community initiative launched in May by the Cherry Hill Environmental Board.
In an effort to replace wildlife habitat that has been lost due to development, neighbors are certifying their yards as National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitats. When 300 residents certify their yards at www.NWF.org/certify, Cherry Hill will become nationally recognized as one of only about 130 US towns to qualify as a NWF Certified Habitat Community.
We are just over a third of the way to our goal. Will you help? The process is simple, quick, and can be a learning tool for the whole family. Visit www.NWF.org/Garden-for-Wildlife to find out tips to make your patio, balcony or yard a wildlife friendly space.

10th Anniversary of the Cherry Hill Trails Program –
Highlighting the Barclay Farmstead Trails
|
|
|
|
The Cherry Hill Environmental Board is marking the 10th Anniversary of the Cherry Hill Trails Program. Each month, one of the 11 trail locations will be highlighted. This month it is the Barclay Farmstead Trails.
The Barclay Farmstead Trails are three interconnected loops, totaling approximately .75 miles in length. They are located next to a farmstead that was built in 1816, and has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The trails run along the north branch of the Cooper River, and can sometimes be muddy in places. Raised footpaths help in some areas. Many bird species can be seen here due to the unique setting and different habitat types. Barclay Farmstead Trails have been designated as a National Recreation Trail by US Department of the Interior, and selected as the beginning location of the NJ Audubon Bird and Wildlife Trails in Southern New Jersey. While the trails here are relatively short and easy, it nevertheless offers a variety of habitat, including wetlands, riparian forest, and a large pond. See if you can see ducks, Green frogs or turtles in the pond.
As part of the 10th Anniversary, you can walk or bike trails at 11 locations and participate in the Cherry Hill Trails Challenge. A Challenge Passport is available on the Cherry Hill website and at the Recreation Department in Town Hall, when it reopens. Challenge requirements are noted on the back of the Passport as are the prizes available to those completing all requirements at three different levels; Bronze, Silver and Gold. Take the Challenge and enjoy all the trails, solitude and nature that the Cherry Hill Trails have to offer. Check out all the trails on our website.

Older people are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 which may result in increased stress during a crisis. Here are a few things you can do to cope with that stress:
- Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories and social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
- Take care of your body. Take deep breaths, stretch, or meditate. Try to eat healthy, well-balanced meals, exercise regularly, get plenty of sleep, and avoid alcohol and drugs.
- Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.
- Connect with others. Talk with people you trust about your concerns and how you are feeling.
- Call your healthcare provider if stress gets in the way of your daily activities for several days in a row.
- If you, or someone you care about, are feeling overwhelmed with emotions like sadness, depression, or anxiety, or feel like you want to harm yourself or others, call 911
