A Message from Mayor Susan Shin Angulo
|
|
Dear Neighbor:
As you may know by now, unfortunately like many swim clubs around the nation, Kingston Swim Club has encountered financial difficulties and has gone into foreclosure. The Club did not open for the 2020 season and the property is headed to sheriff’s sale.
I’ve heard a great deal of concern from residents worried about the impact of any development on that site and I promised from day one to do everything in my power to protect the neighborhood and residents’ quality of life.
And so, I’m happy to report that during Monday's Council Meeting, Township Council and I made the bold decision to preserve the Kingston Swim Club as open space. The 3.98 acre site sits in the middle of the Kingston neighborhood, directly next to baseball fields and hockey rinks, and abuts several homes in the neighborhood.
The land will be purchased using Township Open Space funds, and in the coming weeks, our Township’s Department of Public Works will begin to clean up, secure, and beautify the site. The property’s connectivity to both the neighborhood and existing recreational facilities in that area makes it prime location for a walking trail or a neighborhood park.
I want to thank the board members of the Kingston Swim Club who remained engaged and in contact with us throughout this. Their cooperation is an incredible example of the progress that can be made when citizens and government work together to achieve a positive result.
Our goal here is to protect and enhance the charm and character of the Kingston neighborhood.
In addition, in partnership with Touch NJ and the American Legion we will be announcing new dates for the Food Distribution for those in need in the near future. Our previous events were a huge success and I’m pleased to see that Touch NJ was able to work with their partner Philabundance to add additional dates. Please continue to check our website as we update the information and follow our social media pages.
Please continue to stay safe and be well.
Sincerely,

Join our effort to become a nationally recognized Habitat Community!
|
|
|
The Cherry Hill Environmental Board invites you to join Cathy and Gil Gaul, of Barclay, who have certified their property as a Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation.
The Gauls have made an effort to restore wildlife habitat by decreasing their lawn, and incorporating native plants, which in turn nourishes birds and pollinator insects throughout the year.
They are helping us reach our goal of becoming one of only 135 communities in the country to be recognized as a NWF Certified Habitat Community. You can help too, by visiting www.NWF.org/certify, and following the simple steps to certify your yard or balcony as a wildlife habitat. It's easier than you think!
Restoring habitat for native pollinators, birds and amphibians helps maintain a healthy ecosystem. Our air and water become cleaner, and our gardens and farms become more productive.
The certification process is simple, and can serve as a learning tool for your family. Simply visit www.NWF.org/certify. Work through the simple checklist, and you may find that your property already qualifies for certification!
If you are one of the 125 residents who have already certified your property, please tell a friend! We are halfway to our goal, and need your help to spread the word! And thank you for providing habitat to our valuable wildlife.
