City of Employees Step Up for Pawtucket Community
Letter to the Editor from Mayor Grebien

This past year was difficult for all of us amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Our community partners, businesses, and residents showed their resilience and willingness to help others.

As we turn the page onto a new year, we are thankful for all of the tireless frontline healthcare workers, our brave public safety personnel, and our first responders. These courageous individuals continue to risk their lives every single day in order to keep our community safe.

I also would like to take a moment to express my gratitude and admiration for our City employees, Local 1012, and Local 3960 who supported and approved instituting a second round of WorkShare from October through December. WorkShare, a program offered by the Unemployment Insurance Division in the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training (DLT), allows qualified employers to reduce the hours of work for employees rather than lay them off completely during a time of economic hardship.

Their willingness to join the City Council and me in reducing our wages has resulted in a $1 million offset to costs from the two WorkShare rounds to the City's budget, which has been met with uncertainty like so many other budgets across the state and country.

With the turn of the new year, I am confident that, together, we will all get through these challenging times.

Pawtucket Police Community Survey

The Pawtucket Police Department, in partnership with Curry College Masters in Criminal Justice 2021 Cohort, invite all who live, or work, in Pawtucket to participate in a community survey.

This is a unique opportunity to allow residents and those who work in Pawtucket to voice their opinions concerning crime in their community, their belief of current problems most concerning to them, and the police department in general.

The survey is anonymous to complete and there is an opportunity to enter for a Kindle Fire HD 7 at the completion of the survey.

The survey period is open now and will close on February 28, 2021 when the Cohort will compile and analyze the data. There is also an opportunity to participate in further discussion with the Cohort via Zoom.

Thank you in advance to all who take the time to provide their feedback.

Pawtucket City Calendar Provides Key Info to City Residents
COVID-19 Presents Its Challenges to Unique Photo Contest

It is hot off the press. Mayor Donald R. Grebien announces that the official 2021 City Calendar is now available at Pawtucket City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, and various municipal sites throughout the City. Due to the huge demand, 8,000 copies will be made available to the public.

"Just like previous years, our phones were ringing off the hook with people asking if the City's 2021 calendar had arrived from the printer," says Mayor Grebien. "It's considered to be a must-have resource for Pawtucket residents."

"As we have seen for two decades, generous sponsors once again allow us to present the City's residents with this calendar," says Grebien. "The calendar's pages contain listings of meeting dates and times of the City Council, boards and commissions as well as recycling, trash pickup and street sweeping dates. Contact information for City departments and Pawtucket-elected officials is also included in the calendar."
