MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

We are aware of reports of ICE activity on Academy Place this morning, where one adult male was taken into custody by ICE.  At this time, we have no further verified information to share. We recognize that incidents like this can create concern and uncertainty in our community. We remain committed to keeping our residents informed as reliable information becomes available and to supporting all members of our Ossining community.

Following this past weekend's honorary street-naming ceremony, the intersection of Agate Avenue and Spring Street was officially designated as "Shirley A. Kimball Way" to honor the lifelong contributions of Shirley A. (Kimball) Perillo, Sr. A lifelong Ossining resident, local business owner of Copy Rite Graphics, and devoted volunteer of 45 years at St. Augustine Church and School, Shirley was widely recognized for her quiet generosity, deep community roots, and unwavering dedication to helping neighbors in need.

Congratulations to the team at Whimmsi on Croton Avenue on celebrating their one-year anniversary! It is always wonderful to see local residents stepping up as local entrepreneurs, and a big shout-out to our Chamber of Commerce for their continued support as well.

Congratulations to Mike Risko Music on being named one of Westchester Magazine’s 25 Most Influential People! Mike and Miriam Risko and their team have made an incredible impact on our community, sharing their passion for music, nurturing local talent, and enriching the lives of residents of all ages. We are proud to have Mike Risko Music as part of Ossining and grateful for all they contribute to our community!

Happy day signing our contract with the new owners of 200 Main Street (the historic bank building)!

The Mayor and Board of Trustees’ approval of the sale of 200 Main Street marks an exciting milestone in our downtown revitalization. After being vacant for over 50 years, we are thrilled to have a longstanding local business owner purchasing the property to invest further in our downtown, bringing fresh energy, thoughtful preservation, and new opportunity to Main Street.

Step into the shadows for Ossining's Downtown Haunt & Night Market—a spooktacular event! Get ready for a spellbinding evening designed to summon up your inner ghoul and get you fully into the Halloween spirit.

  • When: Friday, October 16, from 6:00 to 10:00 PM (rain date: Saturday, October 17)
  • Where: Market Square, Downtown Ossining
  • Admission: Free (unless the spirits demand your soul)

Creep It Real:

  • Live Music: A performance by the Nat Longordo Band raising the dead—and the mood.
  • Freaky Side Show Acts: Live stage performances featuring the weird, the wild, and the downright bizarre.
  • Haunted Trail: Wander the eerie Aqueduct Trail between Main Street and Maple Place if you dare.
  • Oddities & Night Market Vendors: A cursedly good selection of unique local goods and offerings.

Let's make it a frightfully fun night! Gather your witches, warlocks, and family for a memorable night out in downtown Ossining!

Westchester County has launched a free Property Alert Service led by County Clerk Tom Roach to help residents monitor their land records and stay informed of any activity associated with their property. Property owners can register their name or address on the secure platform to receive immediate email notifications whenever a deed or mortgage matching their information is recorded with the County Clerk's Office, providing a helpful safeguard to review records and take action if needed.

This week’s meeting will be held at 16 Croton and will begin at 7:30PM on Wednesday, October 14th.

The Work Session agenda will be as follows:

  • For our first topic, we will be joined by our cybersecurity consultant, Thomas DeMayo from O’Connor Davies, to discuss four IT-related policies that need to be adopted by the Board: 1) the Information Security Policy for Village & Town Users, 2) the Information Security Policy for Village & Town, 3) the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence Technology Policy, and 4) the Social Media Policy.
  • We will then see an updated presentation from the development team at 209-211 Main Street. This project is reaching the end of their approval process; after getting official feedback several months ago about locating utilities, the property owner is returning once more to ask the BOT for a PILOP (Payment in Lieu of Parking) for (5) parking spaces which they are not able to cover on site.
  • Valerie will then join us to lead a discussion about the second components of the updated T-District Zoning and Conditional Uses—we discussed the first components (introduction and map changes) at the September 9th Work Session. The component to be covered this time will be the updates proposed for two conditional uses: “Residential Places of Assembly” and “Educational Uses.”
  • Finally, Andy Tiess will join us to discuss emergency procurement related to work on the Snowden Avenue Bridge, the invoice for which is embedded in the agenda. Since the cost of this work exceeds the threshold set by our Procurement Policy, he will be with us to answer the Board’s questions and provide an update.
