MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

The recent state water grant for Ossining is an important investment in our drinking water infrastructure. Governor Kathy Hochul announced $5 million in state funding in for the Village of Ossining’s new Indian Brook Water Treatment Plant. The funding is intended to help replace the aging facility, improve water quality and reliability, and reduce the financial burden on local water customers.

What this means for Ossining

  • Safer, more reliable drinking water: The new Indian Brook Water Treatment Plant will replace aging infrastructure and incorporate modern treatment technology to help address contaminants and maintain compliance with drinking water standards.
  • Less financial pressure on ratepayers: The $5 million grant helps cover the cost of a major capital project that otherwise would have to be financed more heavily through water rates, borrowing or other local resources. It reduces the local funding burden, although it does not guarantee that water rates will remain unchanged.
  • Support for housing and economic development: Reliable water capacity is essential for existing residents, businesses and future development. Modernizing the plant helps strengthen the infrastructure needed to accommodate community growth.
  • Benefits for the Village and Town: The Indian Brook facility serves the Village of Ossining and the unincorporated Town of Ossining, so reliable treatment capacity is important to water customers in both municipalities
