Happy Earth Day! Let's all do our part to give the planet the care it so deeply deserves.
Here are 10 Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint:
1. Turn your lights off when you leave a room.
2. Invest in reusable grocery bags.
3. Unplug devices to save energy.
4. Set that washing machine to cold.
5. Turn the water off while you brush your teeth.
6. Switch to paperless billing.
7. Bring your own mug.
8. Cut the junk mail.
9. Consider carpooling more.
10. Don’t idle your car.
What are you doing for the environment? #EarthDay2025
| | We join the world in mourning the passing of His Holiness, Pope Francis. A living witness to humility, mercy, and deep compassion for the most vulnerable, he leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, justice, and human dignity. His message will continue to echo for generations. May his memory be for a blessing. | | Our Senior Garden Club had another great day planting! The club cultivated herb gardens to take home with them and started wildflower seedlings that will be planted in Village parks. | | Did you see Big Bunny on a Fire Truck this Saturday? Our special guest made appearances all over Ossining with hugs and treats. The Ossining Fire Department brought Big Bunny for appearances all over Ossining. Thank you to the Ossining Recreation Staff and the Fire Department for organizing such a fun-filled event! | | Congratulations to Ossining's Village Manager Karen Mansi D'Attore, Village/Town Engineer Paul Fraioli, P.E., and Water Superintendent Andy Tiess, who accepted the 2025 "Project of the Year for Innovation in Water Treatment Design" for the Indian Brook Water Treatment Plant from New York Section American Water Works Association (NYSAWWA) with Seyda Akpinar, PE from Hazen and Sawyer. | | |
Celebrate Arbor Day with Ossining for a tree planting at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center at 95 Broadway. We will be in the lower parking lot area along Broadway. Join us today, Wednesday, April 23rd, 2025 @ 4:00 PM.
We are thrilled to have students from the Ossining Recreation After School Program and students from the Ossining Youth Bureau participate in this event.
Planting trees in urban areas is not just a symbolic act, but a tangible step towards a healthier environment. It helps to remove air pollutants and cool hot streets by providing shade and releasing water vapor. Your participation in this event will contribute to these significant environmental benefits.
We are eagerly looking forward to seeing our community come together for this exciting event.

The project's goals and objectives are:
- Optimize space, flow, form, and function of interior spaces.
- Convert former museum space to expand program functions.
- Redesign existing space to support youth programming and community outreach/ activities.
- Re-imagine the exterior courtyard area as a functional and accessible outdoor programming space.
- Ensure security by redesigning a single main entrance on the lower level.
- Thoughtful integration with the Sing Sing Kill Greenway and other transportation nodes.
- Introduce decarbonization elements wherever possible.
DCAK-MSA Architects and Village of Ossining Staff, Mayor and Trustees will be on hand to discuss new plans based on previous community engagement, answer your questions and get your feedback on placemaking opportunities and design elements.

Saturday, April 26th, is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Safely disposing of unused or expired pills, liquid medications, and ointments keeps them from being misused and keeps people and pets safe from accidental poisoning. To protect our drinking water, rivers, streams, and aquatic life, never flush medications.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows year after year that the majority of misused and abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including someone else’s medication being stolen from an at-home medicine cabinet.
Did you know that our Ossining Police Department has a program in place all year round to take back prescription medicine right at our very own police station? No appointment necessary.
| | Join the Ossining Fire Department on Saturday, April 26th, at headquarters on State Street for a family-friendly Open House and Recruitment Day for our community to see what our Volunteer Fire Department does – who knows…you or someone you know may want to join this fine volunteer department. | | |

| | Village of Ossining | www.villageofossining.org | | "Respect the zone so we all get home." That is the message of National Work Zone Awareness Week, held April 21-25 this year. Pay attention as you approach a roadway work zone, remove distractions, and slow your vehicle. In 2022, 891 people were killed in work zone crashes, most of them drivers, their passengers, and pedestrians. Getting safely through a work zone could save your life and that of your passengers. | | | | |
