MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

What a spectacular weekend for our community as we continued our O250 celebrations! I am thrilled to share that the inaugural Jane’s Walk Ossining was a resounding success, marking the very first time this global movement has been hosted in Westchester County.

The weekend kicked off on Saturday at Campwoods with an incredible turnout. We saw more than 60 participants—the largest group for a walking tour there in recent memory. It was wonderful to see such a diverse mix of neighbors, from first-time visitors and multigenerational families to residents joining us from across the county.

On Sunday, I had the pleasure of joining a second walk led by the amazing Dana White, our current Village Trustee and former Village Historian. Along with about 35 other residents, we explored our downtown and the Old Croton Aqueduct. Gaining that historic perspective while discussing our current revitalization projects reminds us all of how deep our roots run and how bright our future looks.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to Brian Granoff for bringing Jane’s Walk to Ossining, and to Dana White for sharing her expertise with us. I also want to give a special shout-out to our Village and Town Historians, who conducted a fascinating Revolutionary War-themed walk at Dale Cemetery on Sunday as well.

Thank you to everyone who stepped out to learn, walk, and connect. It is events like these that truly highlight the vibrant spirit of our Village.

An exciting update on our Multi Modal Parking structure (now renamed the Aqueduct Hub): We’ve reached an exciting milestone at the Aqueduct Hub site! Foundation work is nearly finished, and we are now ready to begin the precast construction phase. Starting Monday, May 11, for about ten to twelve weeks, you’ll see wide-load trucks delivering the columns and panels that will form the "skeleton" of the new structure. These deliveries will happen Monday through Friday, between 6:30 AM and 5:00 PM. To make sure everything goes smoothly, we’ve scheduled a quick test run for this Thursday, May 7, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. If you are a commuter or a train parking permit holder, please plan for extra travel time to reach the station, as our Ossining Police Department will be on-site to help manage traffic and keep things moving safely during deliveries.

Curious about the logistics? To safely accommodate these large wide-load arrivals, the trucks will be directed by the Ossining Police Department to travel against the standard flow of traffic on Church Street as they head toward the site. Because of these unique logistics, Brandreth Street will be closed to through traffic and parking (both day and night) Monday through Friday. Additionally, parking on Church Street will be limited, and while Leonard Place remains open for residents and employees, everyone should anticipate some delays around Main Street.

While this infrastructure work moves forward, our downtown Main Street businesses remain fully open and ready to welcome you. I encourage everyone to continue to shop small and "Shop Ossining" during this phase. If you need help navigating, the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce has a comprehensive local map here to guide you. I truly appreciate your continued patience and cooperation as we work to complete this project safely and efficiently!

Project MOVER is hosting a Smart Cycling session at Hudson Link this Saturday, May 9th, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM. This hands-on League of American Bicyclists course is designed to help riders of all levels master lane positioning and essential safety maneuvers for navigating local traffic with confidence. It’s a great way to ensure you’re riding predictably and safely as we continue to grow our bike-friendly infrastructure. Click here to register

I hope all those who celebrate Mexican culture and heritage on Cinco de Mayo have a wonderful fiesta. This festive fifth day of May has evolved from celebrating a day of victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 in Mexico to honoring the country’s traditions, food, music and dance.

I want to wish all the mothers and mother figures in our community a very happy Mother's Day this Sunday. Our Village is strengthened every day by your dedication and care, and I hope your day is filled with the appreciation you deserve. Happy Mother’s Day!
