MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

Congratulations to George Byrne and Patrick McGovern on their well-deserved promotions to Lieutenant! I am incredibly proud to celebrate this significant achievement, especially since both Lieutenant Byrne and Lieutenant McGovern were promoted from within our police department. This is an accomplishment and a testament to their dedication and hard work. Please join me in wishing them continued success in their new roles as they lead and serve the community with distinction.

Last week, the Juneteenth Council hosted a fantastic event for Juneteenth at Bethany Arts Community in Ossining. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and participation from our community. A special thank you to our Historian, Joyce Sharrock Cole, and local representative, Althema Goodson, for their instrumental role in making this event a success.

The Ossining Police Department will host a Cops & Kids Kickball Game at Nelson Park on Thursday, June 26th beginning at 4:00 pm.

Join the fun, and get the ball rolling by meeting members of our local police department.

DJ Johnny will be on hand with music - while the Elks will provide hotdogs.

Looking for a fun Friday night activity? Hungry on Hudson, the first of many exciting summer events hosted by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce is holding a FREE MOVIE (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial) in Market Square. We encourage you to enjoy a pre-show dinner at our local restaurants, or order for pickup and bring your food to the movie! Families, don't forget to bring your chairs and blankets for this under-the-stars experience, which kicks off at sunset (approximately 8:45 PM).

The Board of Ethics (BOE) plays a crucial role in ensuring ethical conduct within our community. They provide advisory opinions to our local officers and employees, helping them navigate the Village's code of ethics and General Municipal Laws. The BOE also investigates complaints from the public about potential violations of these laws, ensuring transparency and accountability.

The BOE also may make recommendations to the Board of Trustees with respect to amendments to the code of ethics. The committee has up to five members, three of whom must be residents of the Village, while the remaining two can be Westchester County residents. Mayors and Trustees also have an opportunity to ask this Board to look into ethical matters that come before us for their opinion.

This week’s meeting will be held at 16 Croton and will begin at 7:30PM on Wednesday, June 25th, 2025.

The Work Session agenda will be as follows:

  • We will begin with a Special Meeting to authorize Village Manager Karen D’Attore to sign an agreement with Goosetown Communications for the OFD radio project.
  • As for our Work Session, we will have only two items.
  • The first is a presentation from Nikita Jankowski, President of Belesai Communications. Nikita has been working with our Village Historian on the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad New York State Byway, a project that aims to honor the legacy of Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Nikita will be requesting a resolution of support for this important initiative.
  • The second Work Session item is a return to the discussion about the replacement of the Market Square holiday tree.
