MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

Everyone who knows me knows how much I love the environment and its safekeeping. I love our local walking trails in Ossining, the amazing programs and hiking opportunities at Teatown, Rockefeller Preserve, and, of course, the many county parks, as well as the Hudson River. We are very fortunate to live here. For our vacation, we decided to explore more of what New York has to offer. I highly recommend exploring the 6 million acres (not all in one day!) of the Adirondacks. I got to visit other municipalities—can't help myself—talked to some firefighters in the area, and truly got to do more hiking than we ever imagined, from the various mountain ranges to the many lakes. The Olympic complex in Lake Placid is a must-see! The expanded use of e-bikes and other mobility vehicles was really an eye-opener. Happy to be home.

I want to congratulate Frankie's Pizza & Pasta in Chilmark and Tutto Cream on Broad Avenue on their grand opening celebrations this weekend.

I would also like to congratulate Gullotta House on their 10th Anniversary celebration on Sunday, where Michael Zezze from the Chappaqua Fire Department received the Distinguished Service Award 2025, Kyle Brown of the New Castle Department of Public Works and Michael Belmonte of the Town New Castle Department of Public Works accepted the Humanitarian Award 2025, and our very own Robert Nolan of AAA Nolan's Auto Collision was awarded the Legacy Award 2025.

♪ ♫ Are you ready for the summer?? ♩ ♬

I certainly hope so because Ossining Recreation will be hosting events every week through the end of August – kicking it off with Riverjam 2025, which will include performances by DJ Johnny G & the A.M. Band, delicious food, and, of course, fireworks! The event will be held in Louis Engel Waterfront Park with food & music starting at 5:00 PM and Fireworks at sundown (a little further in the message will be parking information, which will be a little different this year – so be sure to continue reading).

The next exciting event will be Ossining’s Family Summer Entertainment Series, presenting Almost Eras, a Taylor Swift Tribute Band performed by Amanda Cross on Tuesday, July 8th @ 7:00 PM in Market Square.

Prepare yourself to join in Taylor Swift's musical Eras, where The Almost Eras Band recreates the sound, style, and energy of Taylor Swift's live performances. So, dress up – and bring those friendship bracelets – we’ll see you there.

Following are the flyers for the upcoming summer events. Be sure to stay tuned to the Ossining Recreation & Parks Facebook page for any event updates: https://www.facebook.com/Ossining.Recreation

Come and join us at Louis Engel Waterfront on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, for Ossining's annual firework display and the opening of the Riverjam concert series.

Please note that the following parking and road closure plans will be in place to ensure the safety and well-being of the many attendees anticipated for this year’s fireworks:

  • There will be no attendee parking permitted in the west side train station parking lot (see map - this is the GREEN area).
  • The Secor Road bridge will close at 3 pm on July 3rd. After 3 pm, only emergency and authorized vehicles will be permitted to cross the bridge.
  • Attendee parking will be available on a first-come basis on the east side of the tracks and along Westerly Road. Please note that Westerly Road will be closed at the Secor Bridge overpass starting at 3 pm.
  • The Snowden Avenue bridge will be open throughout the evening for restaurant, resident, and marina traffic.
  • The taxi stand is located on the east side (see map).
  • A total of twenty-five (25) handicapped parking spaces will be located on Westerly Road, near the train station elevator, and on the east side of the train station lot, adjacent to the train station elevator.
  • Please use the sidewalks and avoid walking in the street to ensure your safety and the safety of others.

Parking in Croton and taking the Metro North Train one stop south offers a convenient way to attend the fireworks while beating the traffic.

All cars parked in the west side train station parking lot must be removed by 1 pm on Thursday, July 3rd. All violators will be ticketed and towed.

Our unsung heroes! Every once in a while, it’s important to mention all the hard work that goes into being an active firefighter in our area—a big thank you to our volunteers.

Croton, Millwood & Ossining Volunteers put in the work of conducting an intense day of structural fire training at the New Haven Fire Training Academy on Saturday.

Under the guidance of the Signal 73 Fire Training Instructors, members conducted seven evolutions, rotating through various essential firefighting skills.

These skills included basement fire attack procedures, searching for victims, Vent-Enter-Search from upper-floor windows, and downed firefighter rescues.

The Ossining Youth Bureau is offering a free first responder program for the teenagers in Ossining in grades 9-12th. The Civilian Academy is a four-week program that brings together the Police, Fire, and EMT Department in partnership with The Ossining Youth Bureau "OYB". The program will provide a learning experience of what it means to be a first responder.

Summer Session-July 8th until July 30th, 2025, three (3) days a week (Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays), time to be determined, and the sessions will be at different locations in Ossining.

The Civilian Police Complaint Review Board (CPCRB) conducts complete reviews of Police Department investigations when complaints are filed against police personnel or the department regarding violations of the Police Department's rules, regulations, and procedures. I am proud to say that Ossining has had this committee in place well before other municipalities in NYS.

There is no meeting this week. Please join us on Wednesday, July 9, at 7:30 PM for our Work Session.
