MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

It is my pleasure to wish a heartfelt congratulations to Officer Adam Dubray and Officer Diego Manco, who have both been nominated and selected to receive a ‘Top Cop Award’ from the Mid-Hudson Region STOP DWI Council.

Sadly, a person dies as a result of drunk driving in the United States every 50 minutes. These two officers, and all those who take drunk drivers off the road, help tangibly contribute to public safety through our laws' vigilant and unwavering enforcement. They are a credit to our department, and I am very proud of their hard work, as I'm sure you are too. Well done, Officers!

Green Ossining's Repair Cafe is back on Saturday, March 2nd, from 11AM to 3PM at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center. What's a Repair Cafe? Green Ossining provides our community access to free repair get-togethers and skill sharing. Repair Cafes offer the opportunity for community-sourced repair of broken items, reducing contributions to the waste stream and building a sense of community through skill sharing. The Green Ossining Repair Cafe currently expects to have coaches on hand to provide free assistance with repairing/advising on a number of items listed below.

  • Clothing and costume jewelry repair
  • Wood repair, including chairs and small tables
  • Electronics repair (not including AV equipment and printers)

Friday, March 1st, is the beginning of Women's History Month. There will be many celebratory and educational opportunities for all.

Women's History Month started as Women's History Week, an event organized by the school district of Sonoma, California, first observed in 1978. Celebrations included a parade, essay competitions, and presentations about influential women. Throughout American history, many women have seen their achievements overlooked or even stolen by men in their fields. Women's History Month gives those women a chance to have their contributions celebrated and educates millions of people about everything women have done for the country since its founding.

Please send your event listings for Women’s Month directly to webblast@villageofossining.org to be included in our communications with the community.

Sixth in our series of volunteer committee spotlights:

The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) advises the Board of Trustees on matters affecting the preservation, development, and use of the natural and man-made features and conditions of the Village; conducts studies, surveys, and inventories of the Village's natural and man-made features; maintains an up-to-date inventory of all open spaces within the Village; maintains communications with public and private agencies whose activities have an impact on the quality of the environment; and such other duties as may be assigned by the Board of Trustees.

Pursuant to Chapter 262 of the Village Code, the EAC shall make recommendations to the Board of Trustees, Planning Board, or Zoning Board of Appeals regarding whether a proposed action is consistent with the Villages Local Waterfront Revitalization Program ("LWRP"). The EAC is also designated as an interested agency for the review of Environmental Impact Statements under State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). Our EAC has produced helpful data and information about landscaping options for developers and homeowners and has worked with other agencies to look for ways to improve our environment. We are looking for one more member and potentially two alternates.

This week’s meetings will be held at 16 Croton and begin at 7:30PM on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024.

We will begin with a short Special Meeting with one agenda item, which is to approve the purchase (and lock in the price for) one custom Typhoon Aluminum Rescue Truck, as was approved in the 2024 Capital Plan.

The Work Session agenda has the following items of note:

  • We will begin with an update on Project MOVER from the project team, including representation from Nelson\Nygaard (the project lead) and Shared Mobility (the system operator). They have prepared a short presentation explaining the progress made in the past few months and a realistic and detailed timeline for the project rollout in the Village as an incubator.
  • Valerie Monastra, Principal Planner - Nelson Pope Voorhis will join us for two Planning-related agenda items: Revised Residential Parking Tables and EV Chargers.
  • Village Manager Karen D’Attore and Assistant Village Manager Maddi Zachacz will then join Ms. Monastra to present a proposed Workplan for DRI (and DRI-related) project work and community engagement for the remainder of 2024.
