MAYOR'S UPDATE

From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin

I enjoyed attending this past weekend's Ossining Padres Hispanos Gala Dinner, which recognized several of Ossining's community leaders. Padres Hispanos' mission is to provide underserved communities with empowering opportunities to uplift their social mobility by escaping the hardships of living in poverty. They offer several programs, including a community food pantry, clothing bank, and ESL classes. Click here to learn more: https://ossiningpadreshispanos.org/

I scream – you scream – we all scream for ice cream! I am delighted to welcome the Penny Lick Ice Cream Company to the Kiosk at Henry Gourdine Park.

Did you know that the term “penny lick” is a notable term from the past that represents a small glass for serving ice cream in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, in which street vendors would sell the contents of the glass for one penny?

Penny Lick began scooping this past Saturday and will be open from 2:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursdays-Sundays.

On Friday, Governor Hochul announced a pilot program to enhance Metro-North Railroad's reach to Orange and Rockland Counties. The program will launch weekend service on the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry for the first time! We are so pleased for this initiative as the Village’s elected officials and staff have been working for several years to make the ferry available on the weekends.

Connecting communities accessibly and affordably is essential for our commuters and our local businesses and is vital for regional economic growth and tourism. Making those connections using reliable ferry service helps us achieve our transportation goals while reducing carbon emissions.
