We Asked, the Candidates Responded

The LOBA Elections Team asked the candidates a

Slate of Questions based on our priorities

The Lake of Bays Association does not endorse candidates. Our mandate is to inform our members about who is running and what each candidate’s position is on issues that are important to our members–then YOU DECIDE who best represents your interests.

Each candidate was sent a Slate of Questions based on our Election Priorities:

• Action against climate change
• Sustaining healthy water quality
• Shoreline environment protection
• Strong Official Plan language
• Consistent application of the Official Plan and by-laws
• Effective by-law enforcement
• District-wide integrated watershed management
• Good municipal services with a responsible budget
• A year-round economy, and affordable community housing

In the Township of Lake of Bays, one mayor and six councillors are to be elected — two District and four Ward councillors. There are only three incumbents seeking re-election so there will be a change in Council, including a new mayor. Three candidates are running for mayor. Robert Lacroix has been acclaimed for Mclean/Ridout District councillor and Sarah Roberts has been acclaimed for Sinclair Ward councillor. The remaining seats each have two candidates seeking the position. All candidates, acclaimed or otherwise, were asked to complete the questionnaire.

For the 150 or so Lake of Bays properties that are within the Town of Huntsville boundary, we invited the candidates for mayor (four candidates) and Brunel Ward (three candidates) to complete our questionnaire.

Vote on-line or by telephone

October 14-26, 2026

For Municipal Elections in Ontario you are eligible to vote in both your permanent AND seasonal municipalities. So if you own property in the Township of Lake of Bays or Town of Huntsville and are a Canadian citizen you and your spouse can vote locally (by phone or internet).

BUT, the way the voters' registration list is managed has changed and you may need to re-register your seasonal or second property.

CLOSING THE COTTAGE? DON’T LEAVE IT FOR THE LAKE.

Secure it. Label it. Store it.

Last spring was a powerful reminder of what ice, wind and high water can do. Docks, boats, furniture, water toys and other property broke loose and drifted across Lake of Bays — creating hazards on the water and leaving neighbours searching for owners.

Before you close up this fall:

• Remove loose items from docks and shorelines
• Secure anything that must remain near the water
• Pull boats and watercraft well above the waterline
• Label docks, boats and other property with a phone number and/or email address

If it can float, assume it can get away. Remember, even heavy Muskoka chairs were found floating in the middle of the lake! A little extra work this fall can prevent property loss, dangerous floating debris and a lake-wide lost-and-found next spring.
