February 29, 2020
We had plenty to leap for this February and plenty more to look forward to as we leap into March! We kicked off the month with the launch of this year's Le Tour de Shore Charity Bike Ride. We then jumped into a fabulous fundraiser at Lagunitas Brewery. Our GOTS youth leaders performed at 9 different Black History Celebrations while rehearsals began for the upcoming Classical Ballet Don Quixote. In addition, we held 5 Free Open Gyms thanks to the extra day in February this year. We ended the month with a fundraiser hosted by our friends at Loyola and celebrated our fearless founder Lois Baumann's 73rd birthday! Read on to get all the details and find out whats happening in March at MFA.
Le Tour de Shore Kick-Off
We kicked-off registration for the annual Le Tour de Shore bike ride on Super Bowl Sunday! This 2 day 100 mile bike ride starts at Millennium Park in Chicago and ends in beautiful New Buffalo, Michigan and takes place June 19-20. Riders are supported along the way with SAG stops and a bus ride back home at the end of day 2. Almost 400 riders have already signed up and we have room for 200 more. Go the extra mile with us! www.letourdeshore.com 100% of the proceeds go to Maywood Fine Arts!
We Found the WOW at Lagunitas
For the second year in a row, Lagunitas Brewery invited us to host an event at their fun and fizz filled location in Chicago where the proceeds of all suds sold went to Maywood Fine Arts. We invited all of our friends and had a blast. Thank you to everyone who came out on a Monday to find the WOW in Maywood Fine Arts
Black History Celebration Performances
Our GOTS interns performed at 9 separate black history celebrations throughout the month of February, including Bellwoods 31st Annual Celebration, D89's Family Night at Irving School, PMSA's celebration set up by Maywood Fine Arts student Darnell Parker, and a special performance at Triton College. These performances were made even more special as our dancers danced to an original poem written and performed by CAA student Austin Peyton.
Classical Ballet For New Audiences
Over 100 ballet students and guest artists began rehearsals for our upcoming Classical Ballet, Don Quixote. Special guest artists include Alexandria Franklin, Vivi Parecki, Issac Clark, and Roberto Renteria. We will be performing 2 shows at Trinity High School. One of the shows will performed for over 1000 2nd and 3rd graders from many of our surrounding schools. Get your tickets for the Saturday March 21st performance at Stairway of the Stars dance studio or Maywood Fine Arts!
A Look Forward and a Quick Look Back
As busy as we get at Maywood Fine Arts, we must take a moment to wish Lois Baumann a Happy Birthday! None of this is possible without her vision.
