SANKOFA CLUB & BLACK ALUMNI NETWORKING EVENT
McDonogh's Sankofa Club and the Black Alumni Committee co-hosted an evening of networking for black students and alumni on December 4. Nearly 40 attendees, including current students, alumni, faculty, staff, guests, and parents enjoyed dinner and great conversation. Alumni learned ways in which they can support the Sankofa Club’s mission and work, while students networked with the McDonogh community. Darrielle Alston ’20 and Erika Seth Davies ’94 moderated an informative discussion with a multi-generational panel that spanned roughly 30 years. Panelists included Jamie Haines ’98, Akeem Myers ’15, and President of the Board of Trustees Rob Young ’86.

ORANGE & BLACK HOLIDAY LUNCHEON
Alumni and Guests Enjoy a Festive Afternoon
The Aarsand 1873 Room was filled with joy on Thursday, December 12 as alumni from the Classes of 1948 to 2003 and their guests gathered for the annual Orange & Black Holiday Luncheon. More than 70 attendees reminisced with each other before Head of School Dave Farace '87 delivered a warm welcome and Bridget Collins, The Charles W. Britton Director of Character and Service, led a pre-meal blessing. The Lower School Choir, the Gentleman Songsters, and the Women of Note entertained the crowd with a joyous selection of songs, and guests left feeling all the more festive.

ALUM PARTNERS ON GREATEST GOOD MCDONOGH
On December 12, McDonogh announced Greatest Good McDonogh, a signature program that will prepare students in prekindergarten through 12th grade to create positive, sustainable change in the world. Inspired by the Do Good Institute at the University of Maryland and aligned with McDonogh’s LifeReady Academic Plan, Greatest Good McDonogh is designed to foster philanthropic and social innovation abilities in students, empowering them to make a difference in communities locally and globally through real-life applications. The Rothschild Foundations, which are dedicated to supporting educational initiatives that inspire philanthropic and social engagement, have committed financial resources to launch Greatest Good McDonogh. David Rothschild ’82, Director of The Rothschild Foundations and a member of McDonogh’s Board of Trustees, says, “The world desperately needs more leaders who are socially connected and philanthropically inclined. We are ardent supporters of the Do Good Institute, and we are ecstatic to be partnering with McDonogh School.” The new program will launch in September 2020.

ALUMNI SUPPORT ALL-SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROJECT

On behalf of the entire McDonogh alumni community, the Alumni Board donated presents and gift cards to two of these families, including six children and their parents.

HONORARY ALUMNA PUBLISHES BOOK

Retired Archivist and Honorary Alumna Frayda Salkin recently published a memoir titled  How I Lost 200 Pounds in One Day and Lived to Tell About It . In the book, Frayda shares her story of survival after suddenly finding herself single after 30 years of marriage. As one Amazon review says, "Frayda Salkin writes a captivating memoir of her personal voyage to celebrate life after her divorce." FINNEY BUILDING BRICKS AVAILABLE FOR ALUMNI
Claim a Piece of McDonogh's History
During a groundbreaking ceremony in November, students, donors, and members of the McDonogh community bid a formal farewell to Finney Building and learned that the new building will be called the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Middle School. The new Middle School will amplify McDonogh's powerful commitment to teaching and learning through community, collaboration, and creativity.

The Senior Quad in front of the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Middle School will be refurbished and named the Finney Senior Quad as a tribute to Dr. John M. T. Finney, a longtime member and president of McDonogh's Board of Trustees.

Bricks from the 1930's-era Finney Building are available to alumni and members of the McDonogh community who wish to preserve a piece of history. Shipping is not available, bricks must be picked up from campus. Please complete this form to claim your brick! Questions? Please contact alumni@mcdonogh.org or 443-544-7058.
CAVALRY COMMEMORATIVE CAPS AVAILABLE NOW
Everyone who attended McDonogh until 1971 was included in the Corps of Cadets, but only a select few were in the cavalry. Thanks to a generous donor, alumni cavalry troopers can now distinguish themselves and demonstrate their pride with a specially-designed cap.

Caps have already been distributed to many troopers. If you are an alumni cavalry trooper and have not received one, please contact Chris White at whiteread@aol.com or 240-475-7540 to arrange receipt. Caps will be distributed by mail or by hand by individual trooper alumni, and will also be available during the Reunion Weekend Crab Feast and Family Picnic on April 25.
