Dear Esteemed Alumni,
We are reaching out to see if you would be available to serve as a mentor in spring 2023. Alumni mentors enrich our Legal Profession program and the students involved. Because of your involvement with McGeorge, you have been pre-selected to participate in this program!
The McGeorge 1L/Alumni Mentor Program is coordinated with The Legal Profession course that occurs in the spring term, January 9 through April 26, 2023. We anticipate your time commitment being approximately 4-6 hours total. We are currently in need of 50 more mentors for this program. As part of the Mentor Program, we ask that you help with the three items listed below. All items may be conducted virtually! :

First, permit the student-mentee to interview you about your current job and your career. Understanding what lawyers do and the path you took to achieve your current position is extremely helpful to students in charting their own career path. This assignment is due from our students in early March 2023.

Second, invite your student-mentee to accompany you to at least one networking event. This could be any sort of event where members of the profession gather, whether a bar association sponsored event, or a social event hosted by your organization. This assignment is due from our students in mid-April 2023.

Finally, arrange a time when your student-mentee can shadow you for a two-to-four-hour period doing the work of lawyering. This could be, by way of example: a hearing, trial, deposition, client meeting, board meeting, firm meeting, public entity meeting, negotiation, mediation, or other lawyering activity. This assignment is due from our students in mid-April.
Any of the items listed above may be conducted remotely. If you are interested in serving as a mentor, please respond directly to this message. Know that alumni mentors will be matched to 1L students after the new year and students are expected to contact their assigned mentors by mid-January.
