We attended the Economic Development Association Summer Conference in Mandan June 17-19. The conference covered a variety of topics including workforce, marketing and financial incentive programs. The conference tends to re-energize economic developers across the region. Stay tuned for new programs to be offered in Williston!

McKenzie County ranks No. 1 in Oil Production
Williams County produced 7.41 million barrels of oil in January - which was a new record for the county.
Williston Herald - North Dakota's oil production has been setting new records as a state, even while remaining the No. 2 producer in the nation. However, sometime - perhaps last year or even the year before - one of its counties set a national record. It was a record that no one really even noticed, until a newspaper in New Mexico happened to write about it.  McKenzie County has surpassed all other oil producing counties in the nation to take the No. 1 spot, with 17.88 million barrels of oil produced in January 2019. Read More

Williston Economic Development - The author of "13 Ways to Kill Your Community" was the keynote speaker at the Economic Development Association of North Dakota summer conference June 18. Doug Griffiths told the group of about 100 economic developers, "We all do these things... it (the list) is meant to point out what we are doing and to stop doing it so we can make our communities strong," he said. The list is pictured in the photo at the right. Griffiths will speak in Williston Aug. 28 at the North Dakota Downtowners Conference.

Williston Economic Development - The Economic Development Association of North Dakota held its summer conference in Mandan June 17-19. The conference theme, "Cowboy Up: The Ride to Community Betterment," paid tribute to Mandan's dedication to cleaning up a major underground fuel spill and revitalizing its downtown. A Downtown Tour and Social highlighted recipients of Mandan's Restaurant Rewards program, Downtown Storefront Improvement program and Renaissance Zone program.
North Dakota has More Than 15,000 Open Jobs

West Fargo's Haley Wolfe was crowned Miss North Dakota 2019 in Williston June 15 .
Meet Miss North Dakota Haley Wolfe!  Haley is originally from Carrington, ND and is a Senior Accounting Major at Minnesota State University Moorhead Her Social Impact Initiative is #BeThe1To - Teen Suicide Prevention.  Haley is a member of the MSUM Dragon Dance Team, and her Miss North Dakota Talent was a Musical Theatre Jazz Dance to "All That Jazz."  In addition to becoming Miss North Dakota 2019, Haley also received the Jane Grey Stewert Memorial "Shining Star" Production Award, voted on by the production staff and backstage crew! Sidney Sidewalk Sales June 26
To promote shopping in Sidney's downtown area, a "Hometown Throw-down" sale will take place on Wednesday, June 26.  The sidewalk sales type of event will feature special offers from a wide variety of downtown businesses. Hours of the promotion are during regular business hours.  Johnson Hardware will provide lemonade throughout the day. Meadowlark Public House is planning to offer brats. Alexander Museum to celebrate 50th Anniversary June 29
Roundup - The 50th anniversary celebration for the Lewis and Clark Trail Museum in Alexander on Saturday, June 29 will be a stellar event befitting the legacy of Lewis and Clark and the president, Thomas Jefferson who sent them. It will be a testament to the character, ambition, ingenuity and perseverance of the pioneers and settlers who followed them. There will be something for everyone at this great event.  Read More 
Custer House to celebrate 30th Anniversary July 6
Williston Economic Development - The North Dakota Economic Development Conference featured a trip back in time to 1875 at Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park. The park is the oldest in North Dakota and features Lt. Colonel George Armstrong Custer's home. Custer was the first commander of the enlarged fort and served from 1873 until the Battle of the Little Big Horn in 1876. The fort was decommissioned in 1891. The Custer House is celebrating its 30th Anniversary July 6 at Fort Lincoln.
