Building-Level Newsletter (New for 2019-2020)

Welcome to the first Building-Level Newsletter for McKnight Elementary .
The North Allegheny School District strives to improve the efficiency of communication with and access to information for parents/guardians. At the elementary level, the District previously utilized Peachjar and the Thursday E-Blast. Beginning in August 2019 and throughout the 2019-2020 school year, the District will send a building-specific email newsletter every Friday evening (except scheduled holiday breaks) to parents/guardians. This email will highlight the top happenings at each building, upcoming important dates, District information, and links to community flyers. Parents/guardians will only receive emails from their student’s building. An archive of emails will be available on the District website and updated with the latest newsletters each Monday morning. 
 
Parent/guardian email addresses are collected at the time of registration and are used to share District and building-level communications, and to provide updates from the District’s online gradebook and student information system. It is important for parents/guardians to update any changes in their email address by contacting the building secretary.

Free Ice Cream

Please join us for McKnight’s annual sweet start to a new school year on Thursday, August 29 from 5-8 p.m. Come catch up with old friends and make some new ones while our awesome McKnight faculty and staff serves us delicious ice cream and Italian Ice. The frozen treats are free for the whole family and the company is always excellent. Hope to see you there!
Grade-Level T-Shirts

Grade level t-shirts are back for the new school year and are worn for different activities throughout the year such as assemblies, field trips, Field Day, class meetings, etc. T-shirt color is assigned by grade and is a great way for our students to show school spirit and unity. 

Grade level t-shirts are $7 and available to order at mcknightpfa.org.

Online orders are due September 13 . Shirts ordered online will be sent home with your student starting Tuesday, October 1.
Kindergarten Abbreviated Day
Tuesday, August 27

Remember that the first day of school for Kindergarteners is an abbreviated day. Morning class is from 9:00-10:45 a.m. and afternoon class is from 1:45-3:30 p.m.
1st Grade Curriculum Night
Tuesday, September 3 at 6:00 p.m.

Please note that the First Grade Curriculum Night will be held Tuesday , September 3 starting at 6:00 p.m. This evening is for parents/guardians only, and is designed to present an overview of the first grade program and answer any questions pertaining to the school day. There will also be an opportunity to go to your child's classroom to meet your child's teacher.
Parent Technology Night

The District is offering an informational Parent Technology Night on September 3 at Carson Middle School at 7:00 p.m. Be on the lookout for insurance information that will be forthcoming.
Be A Volunteer

We want and need your volunteer assistance! Please remember that clearances are now required for almost all volunteer opportunities in the District. For complete information on the North Allegheny Volunteer Policy, please visit http://www.northallegheny.org/domain/1964 . Volunteers are an invaluable asset to our school. The students need your support. Please get your clearances and volunteer!

Back to School Publication - Beginnings

The back to school publication for elementary school families, Beginnings , is now available on the North Allegheny website . This PDF is a great resource for North Allegheny families and contains important information for the new school year. Please take a moment to review the information before the first day of school on Tuesday.
Community Flyers
The North Allegheny School District often receives requests for the distribution of athletics and approved non-profit community organization digital flyers. All requests for community flyers to be included in this newsletter must be submitted via email only at flyers@northallegheny.org . Flyers will only be posted and removed from the District website on Friday. For more information on submitting flyers, click here .
