Weekly Nutrition Tip: When Chocolate is Good for You | |
Dark chocolate with at least 60 percent or more cocoa is linked to improving overall cardiovascular health by reducing inflammation and lowering blood pressure. It contains higher amounts of minerals like magnesium, phosphorous, iron, and zinc than milk and white chocolates.
"Be careful to avoid dark chocolates with added sugars, like caramel or raspberry filling, and opt for a bar with nuts for extra protein and healthy fats," said McLaren Flint Clinical Dietitian Marisa Young.
