With over 80% of goods shipped to Alaska going through the Port of Tacoma, the economies of Alaska and the South Sound are heavily interdependent. Grace Greene, President of
TOTE Maritime Alaska
looks toward future growth optimistically.
“We expect [oil] production to go up probably in the next two to seven years,” said Greene. “When oil and gas production is strong, we definitely see an increase in jobs.” That, in turn, could lead to increased shipments of consumer goods, vehicles, heavy equipment and building materials and things that that go along with it.

McMenamins Elks Temple
announced an opening date of April 24, 2019. Touting 45 rooms, a live music venue that seats 700, and a seven-barrel brewery just to name a few features, you will want to make sure you get your room reserved this week when reservations open.

NEW TARIFFS HALTED FOR 90 DAYS
|
While at the G20 Summit, President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to keep their trade war from escalating with a promise to halt the imposition of new tariffs for 90 days. The U.S. will leave existing tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods at 10 percent. After 90 days, if there’s no progress on structural reform, the U.S. will raise those tariffs to 25 percent
China gets a delay on additional tariffs, while the U.S. gets greater purchases of agriculture goods while retaining leverage to push for more structural changes to the economy.
