Connecting the Dots
with Shawn Young
Left to right - Tom Mathews, Bob Mitchell, Mike Machenheimer, Ernie Seta, Jim Schmidt, and Rudy Frey.
In this edition of Connecting the Dots, we go back to the Class of '81.  While looking at Facebook last month, I noticed a picture of several guys from the Class of '81, saluting their annual get together. I decided to give them a call and see if they would be willing to share their story with Rocket alumni. They agreed, so here we go.  These guys have been running together for a very long time, many of them in fact before they got to McNicholas. They had such a great time at McNick that they wanted to do something to stay connected after graduation.  They decided to set up a fantasy football league, years before that was the thing to do.  It started with eight members of the class: Mike Machenheimer, Ernie Seta, Jim Schmidt, Rudy Frey, Ed Dadosky, Tom Mathews, Bob Mitchell, and Tom Quehl. Each person would pick a team, and then they would keep going around until all teams were selected. It was then decided that the lowest four in the competition would have to take the winning four out to dinner at Montgomery Inn.  Whoever was the overall winner of the event would serve as the commissioner for the next year.  They have not missed a year since 1981.  This event is so strong that when Bob Mitchell was transferred to Nashville many years ago, the group traveled to see him, and conducted the event on the road. Over time, some of the guys have dropped out of the football part, but they still join with the group for the draft and the dinner. To continue reading please click here.

2nd Annual Bash for Brad Giesting '04
A "Bash for Brad's B-day" is planned for Saturday, July 23, at McNicholas.  This is the second annual birthday bash for Brad! Brad, Class of '04, and a US Army veteran of the Iraq War returned home after his service to Cincinnati, where he and his wife Annie '05 are raising their 2 children.  Several years ago, Brad was diagnosed with cancer and has been fighting it.  Most recently, he was in an experimental drug program at The Ohio State University.  While Brad was seeing positive results, the drug company decided to terminate the trial.  After a social media campaign went viral, Brad now has access to the drug, and OSU is administering it!
