Mead Library is among the four venues hosting this celebration of books and reading, featuring world-class authors and illustrators of books for teens and children.
Enjoy authors talks, illustrators in action, book sales, signings and more at Mead, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, Bookworm Gardens and the Above & Beyond Children's Museum.
All events are free and open to the public and no advance registration is required.

Girls STEM Day
Girls ages 8-14 can hear short talks by local STEM professionals, take part in a hands-on Curiosity Labs workshop with MilliporeSigma scientists, and enjoy Makey Makey games, Ozobot color coding, button making, blackout poetry circuit art and tea, lemonade and treats.

Naturalist Janet Raddatz, will teach the basics of birding for the whole family.
Open to all ages, but children under age 12 should attend with an adult.

Academy Talk:
Investigating the State of Wisconsin's Democracy
Join Dee Hall, co-founder and managing editor of the
Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, who will discuss the center’s investigative series examining the state of Wisconsin’s democracy in an era of gerrymandering, secret campaign money, restrictive voting laws and legislative maneuvers that weaken the power of regular citizens to influence government.
The talk will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, and includes a reception from 6-7 p.m. in The Loft, with the presentation to follow in the Rocca Room. Presented in partnership with the Mead Public Library Foundation and the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters.

Building Bridges of Understanding
Join Janan Najeeb, a founding member and the current president of the Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition, for a look at the Muslim community, which has become one of the most misunderstood, maligned and targeted communities in America today.
What do Muslims really believe? What is Shariah Law, ISIS and Jihad? What does Islamic teaching really say about women and people of other faiths?

New 3D mural installed at Mead
Work is now complete on a 3D mural outside the library with a message of hope and new beginnings for all.
The piece, titled "Threading a Dream," was created by artists
Nancy Saleme and Patricia Cazorla.

Upgrades underway on library's 1st floor
The first-floor makeover continues, with new flooring installed as of early October.
We'll be painting next and installing new endcaps and directional signage.
Similar work is also slated for the second floor in 2019.

Voter registration now available
Mead Library has set up a new online voter registration kiosk on the first-floor. The kiosk allows you to register, look up your registration status and request an absentee ballot.
Don't forget to register if it's your first time voting, you've moved, changed your name, are a new citizen or haven't voted recently.
