Thank you, Feed Lee's Summit!

It only takes an idea to spark a movement. Empty Bowls was that spark in 2007. Sixteen years later, the Sunrise/Sunset Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Lee’s Summit collaboration has grown into the preeminent force for combatting food insecurity in our community, under a fresh moniker: Feed Lee’s Summit. Together with local restaurants, our Rotary clubs have raised nearly $600,000 in aid.

One Good Meal, Boost 4 Success, Lee’s Summit Social Services, Coldwater and Meals on Wheels were the 2023 recipients of Feed Lee’s Summit, splitting an impressive $141,000!

Thank you, Feed Lee’s Summit, you truly are ‘Making a Difference, One Plate at a Time’!

Subaru Share the Love Event Final Days

The 16-year-old holiday tradition known as Subaru’s Share the Love Event is coming to a close January 2. If a new car is in your future, purchasing a Subaru can benefit one of four national charity partners, including Meals on Wheels! More than $30 million has been donated to Meals on Wheels America over the years, that’s 4.3 million meals. WOW!

For every new vehicle purchased or leased, Subaru and their retailers will donate a minimum of $300 to the charity partner of your choice, including ASPCA, Make-A-Wish, National Parks Foundation and Meals on Wheels. Now is the time to reach out to Lee’s Summit Subaru and make your charitable impact!

Thanks to our local dealership and Subaru for partnering with us yet again. Together we are making a difference in the Lee’s Summit community!

Welcome Chef Chadd!

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician, and father of Western medicine had a little something to say about the impact of food on quality of life. In this modern age of pharmaceuticals, we have many options for treating disease, but nothing beats preemptive measures like wholesome nutrition. “Maintaining health is key to staying in your own home,” Meals on Wheels President Susie Newsam emphasized. “That’s why partnering with Lee’s Summit Medical Center is so important for our clients. We are thrilled to collaborate with Chef Chadd who views nutrition as regenerative.”

Executive Chef, Chadd D. Williams, is an artist at heart. “I graduated from Kansas City Art Institute in 2002. I am still a practicing artist and painter, and my main art now is culinary art. Cuisine is the most perfect art because it is healing and utilizes all senses to experience it.” Whether Chadd creates on canvas or in the kitchen, selecting the finest materials is essential to quality outcomes. “Our chefs here for Meals on Wheels only serve the freshest ingredients and utilize the best quality proteins so that each component is nutritious and helps regenerate the mind, body and soul.”

Chadd expanded his artistic pursuits into the culinary realm 28 years ago. “I have been a chef for sporting venues, casinos, fine dining restaurants, BBQ joints, and wedding venues. Lee’s Summit Medical Center is the second hospital in which I have been executive chef.” Chadd’s role at the hospital allows him the artistic freedom to create rotating menus so our Meals on Wheels clients can enjoy seasonal selections. “Working with Meals on Wheels has been very gratifying for me personally. All our team members work very hard to make each meal seems special for every patient at every meal--period.”
