A Pep Rally of Gratitude: Celebrating Our Volunteers at the 2026 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon
On April 20, 2026, The Food Bank of Manatee & Meals on Wheels PLUS proudly kicked off National Volunteer Appreciation Week with a celebration worthy of our incredible volunteers—a high‑energy Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon filled with gratitude and joy, in true pep‑rally spirit.
This year’s Pep Rally theme came to life throughout the event, with pom poms, megaphones, and clappers filling the room as a symbol of our collective enthusiasm and appreciation. The lively atmosphere reflected the energy, dedication, and passion our volunteers bring to our mission every day.
From the moment volunteers arrived, they were welcomed in unforgettable fashion. The Southeast High School drum corps and cheerleaders lined the entrance, creating a fanfare of music, cheers, and applause that set the tone for a celebration devoted entirely to our volunteers. The excitement and heartfelt welcome ensured everyone felt like the MVPs they truly are. Special thanks to Metz Chef2Home for sponsoring this fun event and providing delicious elevated stadium food to fit our theme!
The celebration was led by Maribeth Phillips, who enthusiastically recognized and honored volunteers for their outstanding efforts and commitment over the past year. Each award served as a reminder that the impact of our work—providing food, care, and compassion to those in need—is made possible because of volunteers who give selflessly of their time and hearts.
More than just an event, the luncheon was a meaningful opportunity to say thank you—to highlight the difference our volunteers make and to celebrate them as the foundation of our success. The cheers, laughter, and shared moments of recognition reflected how deeply valued our volunteers truly are.
Volunteers who dedicated over 75 hours in 2025 were invited to attend the in-person event (due to space limitations). We hope every volunteer feels celebrated, appreciated, and inspired—because our volunteers are the heart of everything we do, and they all deserve nothing less than a standing ovation!

CELEBRATING WOMEN WHO LEAD: HONORING TAMPA BAY'S CHANGEMAKERS
Leadership across the Tampa Bay region took center stage on April 17, 2026, as Tampa Bay Business & Wealth hosted its prestigious annual gala recognizing women leaders who are shaping the region’s economy, workforce, and civic life. From more than 200 nominations, just 40 exceptional women were selected as finalists—each representing the depth, diversity, and strength of leadership throughout Tampa Bay.
These women reflect the full scope of the region’s dynamic economy and vibrant civic landscape, spanning business, nonprofit, healthcare, education, and community service sectors. The evening served not only as a celebration of professional excellence but also as a powerful acknowledgment of the impact women leaders continue to have across Tampa Bay.
Among this distinguished group was Maribeth Phillips, President & CEO of The Food Bank of Manatee & Meals on Wheels PLUS. Her selection as a finalist is a testament to her visionary leadership, unwavering commitment to service, and meaningful impact on the community. Under Phillips’ guidance, The Food Bank of Manatee and Meals on Wheels PLUS has continued to strengthen its mission of supporting vulnerable populations through nutrition, outreach, and comprehensive social services.
The gala highlighted women who exemplify leadership through innovation, resilience, and purpose. Throughout the evening, speakers emphasized the role these leaders play as “changemakers”—individuals who drive growth, strengthen communities, and inspire the next generation of leaders across Tampa Bay. Their collective contributions are helping to build a stronger, more inclusive regional economy.
For Maribeth Phillips, being named a finalist among such an accomplished group of women was both humbling and meaningful. The recognition reflects not only her professional achievements, but also the dedicated team and mission-driven culture at The Food Bank of Manatee and Meals on Wheels PLUS. Her leadership continues to create lasting impact for individuals and families across Manatee County and beyond.

Happy Birthday, Lois V.!
Meals on Wheels PLUS was honored to celebrate a truly special milestone—the 100th birthday of longtime client Lois V. To mark the occasion, Maribeth Phillips, President & CEO of The Food Bank of Manatee and Meals on Wheels PLUS, personally visited Lois, bringing balloons and flowers to help make her day unforgettable.
The visit was filled with smiles, warmth, and gratitude as Lois celebrated a century of life surrounded by care and kindness. Moments like these reflect the heart of Meals on Wheels PLUS and its mission to not only nourish the body, but also uplift the spirit of those we serve.

Celebrating the Heart of Our Mission: Honoring Food Bank Volunteers
At The Food Bank of Manatee and Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, our mission to provide food, care, and compassion to those in need would not be possible without the unwavering dedication of our volunteers. This year, we are proud to celebrate several individuals and organizations whose commitment made a meaningful impact on our community during times of both challenge and hope.
During the SNAP shutdown crisis in the fall of 2025, our community faced a sudden and significant increase in food insecurity. As families across Manatee County struggled with temporary gaps in assistance, volunteers stepped forward with remarkable urgency and compassion. Among them was Dream Church, whose swift response was nothing short of extraordinary. When the need was greatest, Dream Church volunteers mobilized immediately—helping distribute food, support emergency operations, and ensure that no neighbor was left behind. Their willingness to act quickly and selflessly during a critical moment exemplifies the power of community partnership.
We also extend our deep gratitude to The Loveland Center, whose volunteers consistently donate their time and talents in support of our mission. From assisting with food sorting and packing to helping with special projects and daily operations, Loveland Center volunteers play a vital role in keeping our programs running smoothly. Their enthusiasm, reliability, and shared belief in serving others directly strengthen our ability to provide nourishment and dignity to those we serve.
In addition to our partner organizations, we are honored to recognize an individual whose dedication has gone above and beyond. Jim M. was named Outstanding Food Bank Volunteer in recognition of his exceptional service. Jim’s commitment, positive spirit, and willingness to step in wherever help is needed have left a lasting impression on our staff and fellow volunteers alike. His passion for service reflects the very best of what it means to volunteer at the Food Bank of Manatee.
Aaron J. is a shining example of what it means to serve others with compassion and purpose. As a young volunteer supporting The Food Bank of Manatee, Aaron has demonstrated a strong commitment to helping those in need by organizing and collecting over 650 pounds food, plus a monetary donation.
Despite his young age, Aaron leads by example—showing that anyone can make a difference through kindness and action. His dedication to helping others is both inspiring and commendable, making him a truly deserving candidate for Outstanding Youth Volunteer.
As we celebrate these incredible partners and individuals, we are reminded that our work is fueled by people who care deeply about their neighbors. Together, we continue to build a stronger, more compassionate community—one act of service at a time.

Honoring the Heroes of Home-delivered Meals
The Home-delivered Meals program is powered by volunteers whose compassion, reliability, and dedication bring more than just food to our neighbors—it brings connection, comfort, and care. This year, we are honored to celebrate several outstanding individuals whose service exemplifies the heart of our mission.
We are proud to recognize Volunteers of the Year, Cheri and Roger L., whose commitment spans nearly a decade of meaningful service. Since 2017, Cheri and Roger have generously given their time, energy, and hearts to support our community. Cheri plays a vital role as a liaison and coordinator for our Telephone Reassurance Project, ensuring that homebound clients receive regular check-in calls that provide peace of mind and social connection. Roger serves as a dedicated home‑delivery driver, reliably making sure meals reach those who depend on them, while also stepping in to support additional initiatives whenever help is needed. Together, they embody selflessness, teamwork, and unwavering dedication.
Robyn M. is an exceptional volunteer whose dedication behind the scenes plays a vital role in the success of the Home-delivered Meals program at Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee. As a volunteer in the Mosaic Home-delivered Meals Warehouse, Robyn consistently ensures that operations run smoothly so that thousands of meals reach homebound seniors in our community. We are proud to recognize her as our Outstanding Warehouse Volunteer!
We are also pleased to honor Will C., recipient of the Outstanding Car Loader award. Will’s behind‑the‑scenes efforts are essential to the success of each delivery route. His efficiency, attention to detail, and willingness to jump in at a moment’s notice help keep our operations running smoothly and safely for drivers and volunteers alike.
Recognized as Outstanding Meal‑delivery Driver, Carol S. has made a lasting impact through her dependable service and genuine care for the clients she serves. Carol understands that a friendly smile and a few kind words can be just as nourishing as a warm meal. Her consistency and compassion truly make a difference in the lives of those on her route.
And finally, we celebrate our beloved Dynamic Duo, Walt B. and Dwight G. Together, Walt and Dwight bring energy, teamwork, and dedication to everything they do. Whether supporting deliveries, assisting fellow volunteers, or helping solve day‑to‑day challenges, their partnership is a shining example of collaboration in service.
Each of these volunteers reminds us that Home-delivered Meals is about more than food—it’s about dignity, connection, and showing up for one another. We are deeply grateful for their service and for all the volunteers who help us deliver nourishment, care, and compassion every single day.

Celebrating Daybreak Adult Day Center Volunteers
The Daybreak Adult Day Center, a PLUS program of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, is a place of connection, enrichment, and community—made possible by volunteers who share their time and compassion with our clients. This year, we are proud to celebrate an individual whose presence truly brightens every day at Daybreak.
We are honored to recognize Harriette K. for her dedicated and compassionate volunteerism. Harriette brings warmth, kindness, and genuine care to every interaction, creating meaningful connections with the clients she serves. Her ability to uplift others through conversation, activities, and simple moments of companionship brings joy and reassurance to participants and staff alike.
Harriette generously gives her time to interact with clients, often leading and participating in games that encourage socialization, laughter, and mental stimulation. Her kindness and genuine interest in each individual brighten the days of those she serves.

At Daybreak Adult Day Center, we provide a safe, secure environment with social, and therapeutic activities designed to meet the needs of older adults who live at home with a loved one but cannot be left alone while their caregiver works or attends to other responsibilities.

This year, we are proud to honor one exceptional volunteer whose dedication truly embodies the spirit of our program.
We are delighted to recognize Penny S. as our Outstanding Friendship Dining Volunteer. Penny brings warmth, energy, and genuine kindness to every shift, helping ensure that each guest feels welcomed and appreciated from the moment they arrive.
Whether assisting with meal service, engaging participants in conversation, or lending a helping hand wherever needed, Penny consistently goes above and beyond. Her friendly presence fosters a sense of belonging and transforms mealtime into a shared experience filled with laughter, companionship, and care. For many participants, Penny is a familiar and trusted face who makes their day a little brighter.

Through her regular check‑in calls, Jayne provides comfort, connection, and peace of mind to clients who rely on these conversations as an important source of companionship. Her caring voice and dependable presence help reduce isolation and remind our clients that they are not alone.

DONOR SPOTLIGHT
Through the generosity and teamwork of Feld Entertainment's leadership and staff, a total of 873 pounds of food and 330 pounds of pet food were collected and donated to The Food Bank of Manatee & Meals on Wheels PLUS. This organization plays a critical role in addressing food insecurity across our community, ensuring that individuals, families, and seniors have access to nutritious meals, while also helping pets remain with the families who love them.
This initiative highlights the meaningful impact that collective action can have at the local level. Every donation, whether large or small, contributed to a stronger safety net for those facing challenging circumstances. We are grateful to Feld Entertainment and all employees who participated and demonstrated compassion beyond the workplace.
We encourage other businesses and organizations to consider hosting their own food drives as a simple yet powerful way to give back. By partnering with The Food Bank of Manatee companies can help meet immediate community needs while fostering teamwork and purpose among employees. The Cascades community recently came together to support a Meals on Wheels PLUS food drive benefiting The Food Bank of Manatee,

The Cascades neighborhood exemplified compassion and generosity, with residents stepping forward to give back in meaningful ways. Their involvement reflects a shared understanding that food insecurity can affect anyone—and that community-driven action is essential to addressing it. In April, we were honored to receive an outpouring of generosity from Waterlefe Golf and River Club, whose Community Food Drive provided much‑needed food donations to support The Food Bank of Manatee. Their collective effort demonstrated the incredible impact a caring community can have when it comes together to help neighbors in need.
Thanks to the enthusiasm and participation of Meals on Wheels Volunteers, Waterlefe residents and leadership, this food drive helped replenish shelves and strengthen our ability to respond to food insecurity throughout Manatee County. Every donation—large and small—played a vital role in ensuring families, seniors, and individuals facing hunger had access to nutritious food.
Community food drives like this one are essential to our mission, especially as demand for food assistance continues to rise. The generosity shown by Waterlefe Golf and River Club reflects a shared commitment to compassion and service, and it makes a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.
