Virtual VSC 10/17, "Live from the Barnyard!"
|
|
|
|
The October 17th VSC meeting was broadcast via Zoom "Live from the Barnyard," and was enjoyed by 47 volunteers. We joined Volunteer Peta Beavis and RLA Livestock Manager Karen Thompson in the Feed Shed, where we learned about livestock history while viewing historic photos and enjoying the ponies, sheep and goats, and of course, Preston. We learned about upcoming volunteer opportunities too!

RLA's Renowned School Tours are Coming Back!
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and all the associated constraints, RLA Education Staff and Volunteers have worked tirelessly to create virtual school tours for local children!
Beginning in October, RLA's Education Manager Katie Lowe and School Docent Representative Donna Rogahn will be training School Docents to offer live Zoom Footprints on the Land field trips for 4th graders this fall.
The Tongva Education Team is also working on creating a virtual school tour for local 3rd graders. The Virtual Tovaave Program will include a Teacher Orientation video and a series of short films for students that focus on the core values and lessons learned from our Tongva leaders. A film intern began working with the team last week, and the program aims to be available in January.
"Never take more than you need, and always give back."

As we wrap up the 2019-20 fiscal year, we're shouting out a special THANK YOU to our amazing VSC Steering Committee Representatives!
The RLA Volunteer Service Council (VSC) is served by amazing volunteer leaders who sit on the VSC Steering Committee as your Service Area Representatives. Steering Committee members work as liaisons between Rancho Volunteers and the RLA Staff and Foundation, and their work aims to foster communication and provide support for all RLA Volunteers. Steering Committee share their enthusiasm and support for the RLA mission, vision, and values and for building the Rancho's Volunteer community. To the Rancho's benefit, these qualities are bountiful in so many of our Volunteers!
This year, the Steering Committee members have all continued to creatively support our volunteers, staff, public programs, the RLA Foundation, and our shared mission during an incredibly difficult time. As we move into the new fiscal year, it's time to give some long-standing Service Area Representatives (Reps) a break and welcome new members to the VSC Steering Committee.

VSC Steering Committee Reps work within a set of VSC Guidelines, and serve up to two 2-year terms in their positions. Their work includes a variety of duties, depending on the position, and time commitments are variable. Communication and organizational skills are a must, and computer literacy is helpful.
Beginning in October 2020, we're seeking incoming Service Area Representatives for the new fiscal year. Current Reps will help with the transition and "on the job" training.
In 2021, we'll be seeking another set of Reps. This transition schedule helps the Steering Committee maintain stability and experience, while making leadership positions available to interested volunteers. The available positions are listed below.
Joining the Steering Committee is a fun opportunity to learn more about the inner-workings of RLA and make a BIG difference! If you're interested in learning more about becoming a Service Area Representative, contact any of the Service Area Representatives, or Ambyr or Katie.
