Measure R Passes with Overwhelming Community Support

Dear San Marino Families and Community Members,

It is with deep gratitude and immense pride that I share wonderful news: Measure R has officially passed with an outstanding 76% approval rate! This resounding victory is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our community to preserve and advance educational excellence in the San Marino Unified School District.

Measure R, which required a two-thirds supermajority to pass, will continue to provide $1.6 million annually in critical funding. These funds directly sustain essential math, science, and counseling positions, cornerstones of the academic and social-emotional wellness and development of our students. Thanks to your support, we can continue delivering the high-quality education that defines San Marino and meets the aspirations of our families and the needs of every student.

This success reflects the extraordinary leadership and tireless dedication of the Measure R Campaign Committee and our partners at Team CivX. A heartfelt thank you goes to Campaign Chair Christen Gair, and key committee members Dr. Peter Koh and Mrs. Mikah O'Mara, whose vision and passion for our schools inspired action across our community.

We are equally grateful for the steadfast support from:

  • San Marino Unified School District Board of Education
  • Parent-Teacher Associations at Carver, Valentine, Huntington Middle School, and San Marino High School
  • San Marino Council of PTAs
  • PTAffiliates
  • San Marino Schools Foundation
  • San Marino Teachers Association
  • California School Employees Association (CSEA)
  • And the many devoted parents, residents, and volunteers who championed this cause, hosted informational gatherings, and rallied neighbors with purpose and unity.

Your commitment makes all the difference.

“I am incredibly grateful to the entire San Marino community for their continued support of Measure R,” said Dr. Linda de la Torre, Superintendent of SMUSD. “This measure sustains the level of excellence that our schools are known for by ensuring we have the personnel and programs that make a difference in our classrooms and counseling offices every day.”

Board of Education President C. Joseph Chang added, “We are so appreciative of the hard work and dedication of the Measure R campaign team and all the voters who stood behind our schools. This result reinforces our community’s shared belief in the value of strong public education.”

Together, we have once again demonstrated that San Marino is a community where education is not only a priority—it is a shared responsibility and a collective triumph.

Thank you for your trust, your voice, and your partnership in supporting our students and our future.

With sincere appreciation,

Dr. Linda de la Torre
