Operations Updates

Exam Proctors

Beginning Monday, October 16, 2023, most Zucker School of Medicine exams will be proctored by a Hofstra University proctoring group. We have enlisted their services to maintain the highest level of standards for our exam environments and ease the burden placed on our internal teams to schedule and proctor exams.

This experienced group has provided many years of service to the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and was recently recruited to proctor the New York State Bar Examination for the Long Island region.

No changes will be made to exam policies and we will continue to maintain full control over all exam procedures.

On exam days, proctors will report to the front desk to acquire identification badges and materials for the day. You will see our proctors in common areas outside of designated exam rooms, or near the Med School Café.

Please direct all questions to Joseph Nicolini, Assistant Dean for Operations at joseph.m.nicolini@hofstra.edu, or Katie Flood, Assistant Director, Integrated Learning, at katie.m.flood@hofstra.edu.

Office Relocations

Vanessa Gonzalez, Registrar and Director of Student Records, moved from Room 106 and is now located in Room 123.

The ZSOM mailroom was relocated from the first floor of the east building (outside of Room 135) to the second floor of the west building (outside Room W253) across from the main lobby elevator.

In the September issue of the Med School Minute, it was incorrectly stated that Dr. Namrata Mehta can be found in Room 230. Dr. Namrata Mehta’s correct location is Room 203.

We are currently working to update the floor plan and the new version will be circulated once it becomes available.

Med School Café

Located on the first floor of the east building, the new Med School Café offers a fresh salad bar, new food options, and Starbucks beverages and sandwiches.

We hope you are enjoying our new Med School Café! Please take a moment to share your thoughts regarding the Med School Café hours of operation.  By completing this brief, 1-minute survey, you will be helping us deliver the best possible experience.

The survey will be available until Friday, October 13.

Lounge Area for Faculty and Administrators

As a reminder, the lounge area (Room 142) opposite the Med School Café will now be reserved for faculty and administrators between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Faculty, administrators and staff may request this space for special gatherings and events. Please send all reservation requests to SOMoperations@hofstra.edu

Requests for Work and Maintenance

Administrators, faculty, students, and visitors can use this URL link or the QR code to submit requests for new work, maintenance, or to report an issue with our physical environment.

For temperature-related issues, please follow the “maintenance emergency” protocol found on our website.

Visitor Notifications

Administrators and faculty can use this URL link or the QR code to send visitor notifications to the operations team. As a reminder, administrators and faculty who are hosting a visitor should always submit a notification form prior to the visitor’s arrival. Faculty and employees of Hofstra University or Northwell Health who are participating in regular ZSOM curricular activities are not considered to be visitors.

Safety and Security

ZSOM Northeast Entrance/Exit Doors

For the safety of our community and the security of our building, we ask faculty, administrators, staff, and students to only access the building through the main lobby via the north and south main entrances. Card reader and entry point access levels are regularly monitored and reviewed. During recent review, we discovered some faculty and staff had retained card access to the northeast entrances (the two entrances near the Hofstra Swim Center). Please note that all residual access at these card readers will be deactivated during the month of October. Please direct any questions or concerns to SOMoperations@hofstra.edu.

HofstraSafe

HofstraSafe is the official mobile safety app of Hofstra University. This app provides important safety tools, easy access to emergency procedures and our Annual Security and Fire Safety Report. Please search “Hofstra Safe” in the App Store or Google Play Store on your iPhone or Android, or scan the bar codes to the right to download the application for your device.

For more information, visit the Public Safety website.
