Earlier this month, MedChi President, Dr. Padmini Ranasinghe, delivered a presentation at the International Conference on Public Health (ICOPH 2025) in Bangkok, Thailand, which brought together healthcare and public health professionals from 54 countries.
Dr. Ranasinghe led a workshop on “Leveraging Digital Tools for Health System Strengthening,” highlighting how digital health innovations, including artificial intelligence, can contribute to building stronger and more resilient health systems.

Artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare refers to the application of algorithms and advanced technologies that simulate human reasoning and decision-making processes to enhance various aspects of health systems. AI can support clinicians in diagnosing diseases, predicting patient outcomes, and personalizing treatment plans. It also improves operational efficiency by optimizing workflows, reducing administrative burdens, and streamlining resource allocation. Beyond clinical settings, AI plays a vital role in public health by enabling early detection of outbreaks, improving health surveillance, and informing data-driven policy decisions. By leveraging these capabilities, AI has the potential to build stronger, more resilient health systems and improve health outcomes on a global scale.

MedChi CEO Gene Ransom Discusses Deadline in Johns Hopkins–UnitedHealthcare Dispute on WBAL
MedChi CEO Gene Ransom was featured on WBAL discussing the looming deadline in the Johns Hopkins–UnitedHealthcare dispute. This fight is not just about a contract—it highlights the systemic abuses of national insurers that undermine physicians, patients, and public health.
