Medals and Shirts Revealed!
Paying homage to the State of Wisconsin and honoring our marathon weekend of event participants served as the inspiration for this year’s medals and shirts.

“I designed the two to go together like puzzle pieces,” said Tammy LeFeber, Graphic Designer for the Marathon. “The medal has negative space and isn’t complete without our participants in their shirts.”

Each medal is shaped like Wisconsin, features a jewel to mark the Fox Cities, and has colored glass and vibrant ribbons. The t-shirt is the opposite of the medal filling in the negative space.

We hope you like them and can’t wait to see them on you race weekend!

Twenty years running and still going strong
Without a doubt, Guardian Life has helped shape the Community First Fox Cities Marathon weekend of events into what it is today.  For the past 20 years, Guardian has served as the presenting sponsor for the Kids Fun Run and shows no signs of slowing down.

“As a mother and a Guardian employee, I understand physical activity and outdoor play is an important part of every child’s overall health,” said Tammy Van Beek , a Senior Sales Comprehension Analyst at Guardian who has volunteered at the Kids Fun Run for 15 years and recently joined the Community First Fox Cities Marathon Board of Directors.

Van Beek has a wide range of volunteer experience including recruiting employees and their families to participate in the weekend’s races and to volunteer.  She’s even led a team of Guardian employees who volunteer month’s in advance to help with planning and who help on Guardian Kids Fun Run day with set up and with many tasks during the event.

“My favorite part of the event is thanking the families as they leave,” Van Beek said. “The kids are beaming wearing their medals around their necks and with a handful of goodies in their hands.”

Supporting the Kids Fun Run ties in well with Guardian’s Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in health and wellness said Terry Zastrow , 2 nd Vice President of New Business and Benefit Services.

“Our mission is to prepare people for better futures in every phase of their life, health and wealth,” said Zastrow.  “As a large employer in Appleton, it makes me happy to know Guardian has a role in providing a fun event that promotes health and wellness for kids and families in our community.”

OSMS - Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists
Welcome New Presenting Sponsor of the Health & Wellness Expo
Training, preparation, looking for ways to improve … that’s what runners and walkers are striving for as they approach marathon weekend. That motivation and drive of race participants aligns perfectly with one of the core values - continuous improvement - of our new Health & Wellness Expo sponsor, OSMS - Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Specialists.

“All of us at OSMS know how hard runners at all levels train in preparation for their race.  They are always looking for ways to improve form, training regimen and in the end, improve their race time,” said Darin Schumacher , Marketing Manager for OSMS. “The same goes for all team members at OSMS. We are always looking for ways we can improve the patient experience and outcomes to ensure that as patients, they are receiving the best possible care”.

OSMS is new to the Fox Valley but not Northeast Wisconsin. OSMS is made up of 14 Orthopedic Surgeons and four Rheumatologists who see patients in Green Bay, Appleton, Marinette, Sturgeon Bay, Brillion, Escanaba, Oconto Falls, Iron Mountain and Kewaunee.  Being doctor-owned and using their “scrubs over suits” management approach, means that OSMS can make informed decisions and provide services that are truly focused on the patient outcome.

The OSMS team is looking forward to participating marathon weekend including volunteering to help runners achieve their goals.

“We can’t wait to see the marathon and its’ events in action,” said Ari Zuraski , Radiology Technologist, who plans to volunteer at the OSMS Water Station. “I’m particularly looking forward to watching families from all over the area come together for such a great cause.”

OSMS is also hosting a booth at the OSMS Health & Wellness Expo to find out more about the families they serve.

“The Community First Fox Cities Marathon is known throughout the area as a well-respected, family-friendly event,” Schumacher said. “Those who stop by our booth can learn more about our unique doctor-owned organization, pick up some OSMS swag, and play some games to win additional prizes.”
