PEORIA, IL (July 20, 2026) — The Peoria Park District invites families to Trewyn Park on Thursday, July 23, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for its third and final Streets Belong to Me celebration of the year. This free, family-friendly event brings neighbors together for an afternoon of fun, connection, and community support, while helping local students prepare for the upcoming school year through the annual Fill the Fire Truck Backpack Giveaway.
A highlight of this year's event is the giveaway of 2,000 backpacks, available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. The backpack giveaway is made possible through the generous support of the Peoria Fire Department, Peoria Afro American Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 50, Millennia Professional Services, and many other partners, listed below, whose commitment to local families continues to make a meaningful impact.
In addition to the backpack giveaway, families can enjoy:
- Live music from the Peoria House Music Peace Project
- Fresh fruit slushies from Peoria Grown
- Hands-on activities from the District's Rec & Roll and the Peoria PlayHouse Children's Museum's Imagination Playground
- Fun on the Run Inflatables
- Bradley Chemistry Explorations
- Game On Gaming Truck
- Face painting
- Food for a fee hosted by Mercadez Girls Catering
- Community resource tables featuring local organizations and services
"Streets Belong to Me is about creating a space where families can come together, connect with valuable community resources, and celebrate everything that makes our neighborhoods strong," said Chanel Hargrave-Murry, Supervisor of Community Connections for the Peoria Park District. "Whether you're picking up a backpack for the new school year, exploring activities with your children, or meeting organizations that serve our community, this event is about ensuring every family feels welcomed, supported, and connected."
