PEORIA, IL (July 23, 2025) — The Peoria Park District is proud to bring the community together for Streets Belong to Me on Thursday, July 24 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Trewyn Park. This high-energy, family-friendly event is designed to celebrate community pride, highlight local resources, and help families gear up for the school year, with plenty of fun along the way.
A major highlight of the event is the giveaway of more than 1,000 backpacks, including over 500 clear backpacks and 600 regular backpacks. This generous distribution is made possible thanks to the support of the Peoria Fire Department, Afro-Firefighters Association, Local 50, and Millennia Professional Services, whose partnership and dedication to the community helped make this critical effort a reality.
Thanks to the support of local partners, this year’s event will also include:
- Free haircuts for kids
-
Free meals and ice cream for the first 100 children, provided by Tony’s and R&R Snowcones
-
Healthy slushies from Peoria Grown
- Fun and games from Rec & Roll, the mobile program offered in partnership by the District and the Greater Peoria Family YMCA
- Over 22 community resource tables
-
Live performances and music by DJ Divide throughout the event
“Streets Belong to Me is more than just a celebration, it’s a statement that our neighborhoods, our parks, and our streets are a place for families to thrive,” said Chanel Hargrave-Murry, Supervisor of Community Connections for the Peoria Park District. “We’re meeting our community where they are—with resources, support, and joy—because we believe Peoria belongs to all of us.”
Join us at Trewyn Park for an afternoon of connection, support, and community celebration!
